IPAD HEALTH SUPPORT We've added support for Apple Health on iPads (it's been there for a long time on iPhones). On an iPad you will now see the option to connect to Apple Health on the menu > MY ASENSEI screen. You will need to have a recent build of iPadOS that supports the Apple Health app. KAIZEN - CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT Minor changes to the appearance of the JOURNAL screen.

1.20.0

October 18, 2023

We say sayonara, or farewell, to the Hey asensei [+] button in this update. Some of you loved it, some of you hated it, and some of you never even figured out it was there! You can now find the main menu for asensei in the top right of the Up Next screen - we think this is more intuitive and works better in both portrait and landscape mode. If you are looking for your Workout History that's now located under the menu item JOURNAL. We chose the name Journal because we want to bring you much more here in future - more post-workout stats and insights - watch this space! For now you'll find the usual list of workouts you have performed and can still tap into them to see more performance insights. Your programs and workouts can be found via the PROGRAMS menu item and settings are in the MY ASENSEI area. SUPPORT is located at the foot of the new menu. We're planning further enhancements to the asensei rowing user experience in the coming months - it's all aimed at making asensei more enjoyable to use. Tell us what you like, don't like and would like us to improve via support@asensei.com! KAIZEN - CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT A bug that meant feed.fm music (our default option) would not play correctly on iOS17 has been addressed. UP NEXT SCREEN REFRESH Up Next screen menu changes: * The menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right replaces the Hey asensei [+] button in the bottom left. * The JOURNAL menu item replaces the Workout History button (more insights will be added to this section over time). Up Next screen visual refresh: * Exercise name, coach name and program name now in cyan. OTHER CHANGES Tips and conversations updated to reflect the new menu structure. Lots of helpdesk articles updated, but if you spot any we've missed let us know via support@asensei.com

FIND A WORKOUT We've added a workout search feature to the asensei app.  Search by duration, coach, or using a key word (want a pyramid workout or ladder workout? no problem).  You can also sort the workouts you find by duration.  Choose Workouts from the Hey asensei [+] menu, then hit the search icon in the top left. IF YOU GOTTA GO... We'll be sad to see you go, but we now support account deletion requests from within the asensei app (on the My asensei page).

BETTER WORKOUT SUMMARIES The workout summaries now include the same 'sharing' cards as you see immediately after a workout. These allow you to see the workout stats at a glance, and you can share them from here at your leisure too. The share cards that show the interval breakdown should now display the exact value of the interval (e.g. a 30s interval will show as 30s rather than 30.1s as it sometimes did previously). This will also apply to the data shared with the concept 2 Logbook. ENABLING (APP)AREL UPDATES The asensei app can now see and update the firmware on the latest versions of the asensei (app)arel.

This meant I wasn’t taking thousands of bad rowing strokes, ingraining bad habits. The potential for asensei to provide quality feedback before bad habits are formed is really exciting", Helen Glover, 2x Olympic Gold Medallist and World #1 Rower. "Just when you thought (sports) technology couldn't get any cooler, along comes asensei", CBS Television "... the next frontier in the fitness tech revolution ... a wildly ambitious goal ... able to guide you through everything from form and recovery to metrics and goals while improving your individual results ... future of personal training", Men's Health Here's what users had to say: "someone keeping an eye on you the whole time is really cool because ... it keeps you honest, keeps you on track in a way that I don't think a coach normally can unless you are doing a one on one session, so it was the benefit of a one on one, with the class dynamic, which I really like!" "It's a cool product. I've never ever seen anything like that. In 5 minutes I learned how to row, I thought I was doing it right, but I wasn't" "(asensei) said don't worry there's a bunch of exercises I'm going to give to you afterwards that are going to help you on that. ... that's amazing. ... this is not just about now, it's like building a relationship."

Reviews of asensei

  • Fantastic, worth it.

Great for all levels, app connected instantly to my Concept2 PM5. I really like that the app tracks your ability and progressively adjusts your plan, it also syncs to your concept2 logbook. It’s also great seeing programs with Olympics/world class rowers. I had to dock a star since there is no option for the iPad to connect to Apple Health (iPhone has the option). The UI scales well with the 13” iPad but definitely seems more engineered for iPhone, also some of the program videos show compression artifacts on the larger iPad screen which slightly cheapens the experience. Happy to support these devs and excited to see more from Asensei!

    Developer Response

Thanks for the review, we appreciate all the feedback. We're looking into adding Apple Health on the iPad, watch this space!
  • Excellent

Have been using asensei for 2+ years. Keeps me motivated to erg in a way that nothing else seems to. High quality coaching and lots of class diversity. Though never having rowed on the water or in a competitive environment, somebody at the gym the other day asked me what college team i rowed with, commenting on my good technique. Would love to see more live class implementation and a way to collaborate/compete with other asensei users. Thanks to the coaches and developers for putting this amazing program together.
  • Trouble renewing subscription

I used this app and loved it for a year. When it expired and I went to renew I used Apple Pay and it did not load on my app as expected. Contacted customer service multiple times via their email support and still have not gotten a response and it has been several days. Very poor customer service! If I don’t get access in the next day, I will be forced to contact my credit card company to let them know. Update, they responded via email last night that there was an issue with multiple accounts due to new email, but still not telling me how to fix. I created a new account with new email, but still not getting program loaded despite payment. Ughhh!

Update: yay! Customer support came through and all my issues are resolved!

    Developer Response

Glad this was resolved, hope you enjoy your workouts with asensei and let us know if we can help with anything in future!
