  • Paid once, now gone…

Paid once, not twice. Not cool

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. For five years this app has been a one time purchase app, very very low priced, and maintained without any additional charges for upgrade and maintenance. We’ve reached a point in its lifecycle where we had to face the future and ensure that we could keep and and maintain this platform well into the future. This transition to a subscription platform is not a “gotcha” game or a business tactic, and we’re very sorry you feel taken advantage of. Below is a link to a post that explains the full thought process behind this change and the ways we hope to add continued value to app users. If you change your mind and would like to give the new app a try, or would like to work out a resolution that you feel would make things more fair, shoot an email over to tayler@gotgametech.com, and we’ll help you get set up and/or get a resolution worked out. https://gotgametech.com/qa-answering-all-your-elknut-app-subscription-update-questions/
  • Hear them out on changing to subscription

I have had this app for two years and it has helped my husband and I significantly with our calls and learning about elk communication. I have told my husband that it was crazy they only charged 10 dollars for the amount of information the app contained.

I was bummed when I saw it was moving to subscription, but I reached out to them, they responded promptly, and they explained that it was a very difficult decision. There are only 5 guys working on this app.

The amount of work, thought, and years of experience and education put into this app is definitely worth 15 dollars a year. And that certainly isn’t going to be enough to provide an income for any of them.

All we see are the videos and the calls in the app. We don’t know the time, cost, and effort that is required behind the scenes to have the app run smoothly and give us all of this awesome information.

The new update runs seamlessly and it’s apparent a lot of thought was put into this decision. Love seeing new tips, tactics, and sequences, too. The information put out in this app is unmatched and worth it. These guys are hunters just like we are. Don’t give them a bad review just because they are trying to figure out a way to keep making this app better for us.

Thank you guys for taking the time out of your lives to give us this great app!

Sure appreciate the kind words, detailed review and support. You explained things better than we could!
  • Ouch.

Why they didn’t create two tiers blows my mind. I paid for content that was taken back from me. I bought a new bow this year… imagine hoyt taking that back from me because they came out with a “better model.” I see no difference. If elk nut announced this change and told us there was much more content available, I likely would have subscribed. The price is reasonable, however, they took back something I paid for, which left a sour taste in my mouth. Now I’d rather pay $15/month, download you tube videos, and call it a day. Ultimately it’s more expensive obviously, but it’s upsetting that elk nut has done this. I was out hunting today and went to access something from the app when I was presented with the dilemma. Shameful.

*Edit: we have updated the ElkNut app in order to restore original content featured on the one-time purchase app to all ElkNut app users. Only new content and features will require a pro subscription. Sure hope you'll try out the new app, and if you like what you see, we hope you'll consider revising your review. • Major disappointment

I gladly payed for this app earlier this year and now can’t access the content without paying for a yearly subscription. To do this during the middle of elk season and prohibit access to all of the downloaded content mid season is wrong and greedy. We should have access to the content we payed for and downloaded to our devices for offline use. I’m very disappointed and will not continue

  • Forced to pay for something already bought

I am disappointed that the new update forces me to pay again for access to what I already purchased to use the last couple years. Was a great tool. I wish the new update was just a new app that you could choose to go to if you wanted to get more recent calling teachings/techniques. A discount price for the first year is still a second charge that shouldn’t happen from my perspective. It is certainly your choice to change the access to your teaching and experience. Thank you for your teaching and experience that I was able to access for the last couple years. I’ll not be able to continue the use of your app though under the new subscription fee method.

Ultimately we needed to adjust our model as we plan for the app’s future and our ability to continue to maintain it. We’ve added additional content and features, and hope that you’ll be willing to give it a try. Please send an email to tayler@gotgametech.com so we can work out a resolution for you.
  • Subscription

Was able to download the app, create an account and sign in. But wasn’t able to purchase a subscription. It just reloads and reloads.
Resulting in not being able to use anything without purchasing a subscription.
    But I can’t even purchase a subscription.

  • Worth it

Good for practicing your elk calls. Listening to different calls and mimicking them has been very beneficial to my elk calling. Also like to read the break downs on when to use each call and what they can mean when you hear them in the field
  • Best out there, fraction of the cost

I’ve gone through the other well known elk apps and training sessions. They cost way more and none of them provide a coherent calling strategy like the Elk Nut does. Total novice on my first trip, after a few months of practice with the app I went to a DIY public land run of the mill unit and called in 18 bulls within bow range in 4-1/2 days of hunting using elk nut calling sequences. Had my pick of the litter, the average bull success rate in that unit that year (hindsight) was 4% and my buddy and I both had our pick of the litter. Our success rates of bringing a given bull into bow range was extremely high. I’ve now got confidence to hunt and kill elk anywhere.

  • Look at YouTube instead

This app has more videos of the guy talking than actual usable call sounds. It’s misleading. Not worth the price

    Developer Response

Sorry you feel that way. This app is designed to help elk hunters improve their calling ability, so there needs to be instruction. However, there are 21 different elk sounds on the app, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better resource in one place. If you’re having difficulty accessing all of the content on the app, please contact us and we’d be happy to assist.
