User Reviews: APRS pro Ultimate

  • It works, but…

The user interface needs a better UI design. Right now, it is too easy to hit the wrong button, and turn on/off something you didn’t intend to.

Also the user forum is only on Facebook, which many of us do not use.
  • Suddenly stopped working

The app had been working fine, and I paid for lifetime use. Then, a few days ago, it stopped receiving. All I see it “Waiting for APRS Link”. No response yet from the vendor on Twitter, and I can’t get to the forums, as I’m not a Facebook user.
  • Could be great...

It works well for the Internet-connected APRS function, but adding an introduction and setup screen would really improve this app. Currently, once you pay the upgrade price, nothing appears to change, and you are pretty much left to figure out how to operate it for yourself. Also the "Alarm" transmit icon needs to be moved. It's too easy to press it by accident when you are pressing the APRS settings button to send a beacon. Why can't beacon be on the homescreen?
  • Transmits fine, no receive via the phone audio.

RX signal shows in spectrum below the S meter, but nothing decided. I even recorded it’s own output and played it back into it. No decodes.
  • Why are their two apps? And no offline maps?

After some investigation on this app in relation to APRS. This app is only lacking one thing. OFFLINE MAPS. Using this application in conjunction with a transmitter or receiver working that side of the house. This app is really good at decoding and responding to packets sent to it. Really solid app with great possibilities. However I deleted both the deluxe and the ultimate versions due to no availability for offline map downloading. I would most definitely consider a re-download if the app had that one feature! (Posting to both apps on the App Store for this.) also, why is that? What is the difference between ultimate and deluxe?
  • Does not work and there’s no support.

The app works well when connected to a network but APRS was designed for off-network use. I was able to share location over Tx/Rx to aprs.fi but transmit or receive messages to SMSGATE over radio is broken. While checking their websites, the developer may respond once every three or four years. It’s an extremely “chatty” app and may irritate some bandwidth providers.
  • Constantly stops transmitting

Even with TX set to 30 minutes or whatever, and location access set to always, and full access to the app being paid for, the app frequently stops transmitting. There is no help available. I wouldn’t buy this.
  • Horrible!

Wasted $48 subscribing to the lifetime unlock of all the features, only to find that I couldn’t transfer the subscription from the pro to ultimate version. Neither version allows you to text (as advertised) via the APRS network. Horrible, hard to use, and virtually useless. Can not connect to a Bluetooth tnc, so your phone or tablet will be tied up, wired to it with all your notifications (phone call ringer, text alerts, email alerts, etc) turned off. No ability to download offline maps, so you will need Wi-Fi or cell service to use it (gee, if I had cell phone service or Wi-Fi, why would I even need to text via APRS?). Last, but most important, the email for the “help” link, or maker of the app is returned as undeliverable. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
  • No support whatsoever

There’s no manual or guide. You can’t download maps for usage where there is no 4G connection. Works with a device with a 3.5mm audio jack but I cannot get it to work with a device through the lightning port. It was promising, but I strongly discourage giving this developer any money
  • Great app, not an iPad app at all

This app would be wonderful if it supported landscape mode the way iPad apps do. I ran it, and it reverted back to portrait display mode, like on an iPhone. So, it’s not truly an iPad app ... yet. But it looks like I’m going to like it once they fix the orientation bug.
