Pretty good
Super effective
At first, I was confused by the simplicity of the interface. What was it meant to do? Was it doing anything? Oh, ok, turn it up a bit with *that* slider, and there it is - noticeable amplification of the primary noise (a human), and no amp on background noise. It appears, this app simply just works. Full score.
However, like a previous reviewer, lacking the ability to tell the app that you are unable to hear a frequency during the calibration test reduces its accuracy. A second point on the calibration would be to allow a pause between tones. Press “start”, have the first tone run until “I can hear it”, then pause until “Start” is pressed again. I found the calibration inaccurate because I wasn’t able to press the “I can hear it” button fast enough as is, with one tone running into the next.
As a fun aside, it’s a giggle placing your phone on your belly while your tummy rumbles; and I can guarantee my iPhone’s microphone is sensitive - amplifying my heartbeat nicely into my headphones. So the app is fun, as well as useful.
Lost in setup
Skipping the hearing test, it keeps beeping, and says “connect your headphones”, which were already connected, and still beeping. (Bose QC35)
Update 2019 September
The hearing test seems to be a twitch test. After the first tone, I could hear all of the tones immediately. Something in the pipeline isn’t going quiet enough, or can’t. So it’s how fast can you click the “I can hear it” button.
I got past the hearing test. There is some misalignment on several screens. In one place I’m to enter a profile name for the environment where the test was run, and press OK, but these 2 text fields overlap.
I didn’t add a picture for my profile on that screen, so now I can’t add it. There’s no obvious menu, no way to restart the process. Perhaps if I add another profile, and delete the first.
The audio processing seems OK, but there’s a lot of noise added. I’m also listening with pretty good noise-cancelling headphones, which might defeat the purpose.
I really want this to work, as I’m really frustrated bynoisy environments. I’ll give it a shot next time.
Response from developer
Dear QM64, First of all thank you very much for downloading Hear Me Well. We’re sorry to hear that you have experienced some issues during the first setup. If you have completed or skipped the test, and the “connect your headphones” was still showing up while you were perceiving some beeps, it might be due to a pairing issue with your headphones. Feel free to contact us anytime if you need help configuring or using the app, we will be really happy to help.
