Reviews of Smart Home Manager

  • Fix. Your. App.

Like most of the reviews on here in the past week (and then some) the app has been completely useless. My network has been “offline” for two weeks despite maintaining a connection on all of my devices. I’ve combed through so many forums to try and solve the problem on my own as most of them say roughly the same thing. NOTHING has worked. Troubleshooting through the app has yielded that “it’s a problem on our end” every time. “Our end” being AT&T’s. Now that I’ve finally come here to post a review and hopefully get a solution to this problem, my only reassurance is that I’m not the only one having this issue right now. Please fix your app as this is clearly an issue on your end. For the most part, it’s been pretty reliable otherwise but I feel that I’ve exhausted my options and patience. Thank you.

    **Update**
As suspected, the developer response to resolve the issue didn’t work. Now, because the app won’t allow me to change my SSID and password back to what it was (due to it being “offline”), I have to go back through all my devices and change the network and password again. In the grand scheme of things I realize that this is a minor inconvenience and that I still have service. With that said, please quit making me frivolously jump through these hoops and address what needs to be fixed on YOUR end. Thank you.

Can you please send us an email at SHM-Support@att.com with the user id and Billing Account Number (BAN) you are using to login and screenshots of any error messages you are receiving? What you are seeing probably means our backend systems are having trouble talking to your gateway even though your Internet and Wi-Fi are working. Can you please try these 2 things: Please try to reboot the gateway and see if the devices start to show up properly in Smart Home Manager. If it does not, can try to do factory reset on your RG? Here are the instructions to follow. The article mentions copying down the SSID login/pwd which is a good idea, but the RG should come back with all the correct settings and profiles, etc. but it is always safe to do that. https://www.att.com/support/article/dsl-high-speed/KM1000883/
  • Repair and Sales

Yesterday we were without internet service. Jon at AT&T came, assessed the problem. It involved working on the box outside and the box inside. He was very knowledgeable, efficient, pleasant and courteous. We had internet in less than an hour. I would highly recommend Jon and AT&T.

At the same time yesterday Austin from the sales dept at AT&T came out. He told us the advantages of switching our cell service to AT&T. My husband was badly in need of a new phone. He was able to get a 14 Pro free and I was able to upgrade to a 15 Pro Max at no cost but sales tax. It lowered our internet bill. Everything was explained fully. We were not pressured in any way. We are very pleased with the outcome, especially the fact that we are saving money. We both will be receiving $200 gift cards for switching to AT&T. I would highly recommend Austin at AT&T.

  • App not very reliable

I think if you just have the Gateway/Router, this app is good enough. You start running into problems when you start using extenders, that’s when this app is not reliable and useful. Also, I wish it could provide better tools to test and manage the network and the internet service. A lot of times I’m left wondering what the unknown device is cause it hardly provides any info on the device. Also, you can’t manage the Extenders, they do weird things like connecting to devices that are far away from the extender or gateway. For example a device would connect to an extender that’s located across the house with hardly a WiFi signal while there’s an extender 2-3 feet away from the device. You can’t kick the device from an extender so that it can try to connect to a different extender. I usually have to restart the entire network so that the devices can connect to the closes extenders. Unfortunately AT&T does not let you use your own Router/Mesh Network. You’re stuck using and paying monthly for the terrible extenders.

    Developer Response

Hi. If some devices are not connecting to the extenders you think they should be connecting to, you might want to reposition the extenders to get the most efficient coverage. I suggest turning off 1 extender then running a WIFI signal test (via the "Easily find weak Wi-Fi in your location" card on the home screen, to see areas that are red with one of your extenders turned off. Then place that extender near the red zone (preferably in an area the tool says is orange) to see if your devices connect in a manner you think they should connect.
