The first major update is finally here! After almost two years of carefully listening to our users of the app and closely working with the science and diving community, we made quite a few improvements to Marine Life North Atlantic App. As soon as users began enjoying the MLNA App, we received numerous messages of observations of animals that were not included in the BOOK section. So we are proud to say that 27 new species have been added to the App. Common and scientific names have been updated. Below is the list of new animals; SPONGE Canadian Horny Sponge Hymedesmia Canadensis CNIDARIANS Anemone Gonactinia prolifera PLATYHELMINTHES Acoelomorph Flatworm Convoluta convoluta BRYOZOAN Hairy Bryozoan Electra pilosa MOLLUSKS Red Chiton Boreochiton ruber Pale Moon Snail Euspira pallida Northern Lacuna Lacuna vincta Bluish Whelk Buccinum cyaneum Sea Lemon Doris pseudoargus Villous Colga Colga villosa Aeolis Nudibranch Flabellina sp. Now, you can find your dive records by year, month and date. For example, if you wish to see all your dives made during 2018, just type 2018 in a search bar and all 2018 dives will be displayed. ► In the “Notification” portion of the App, in addition to “SAVE” and “FOLLOWING” we have added new Filters. “TRIPS”, ”NEWS”, ”PRODUCTS” and “EDUCATION”. This way you can locate an important message quickly. ► In the SETTINGS we added “SYNCHRONIZE” button. Now, with the push of a button, you can synchronize all your devices with the Server. We hope you enjoy the new and improved version and that it enhances your marine experience. Marine Life North Atlantic App wishes safe diving and new discoveries to all.

Description of Marine Life

Marine Life of the North Atlantic presents easy to use and cleverly designed field guide that unveils marine life of the region from Northern Canada to Cape May, New Jersey. Marine Life of the North Atlantic is a unique tool, which you can carry in your pocket, that allows divers, students, teachers, citizen scientists, and beachcombers to have and to share information of observed marine organisms of the covered region. It is the most comprehensive field guide expertly designed for easy recording and sharing of all your observations. The book section of this app is divided into clear, color coded and easy to navigate chapters/phylum. The SEARCH feature is uniquely designed to allow you to narrow the search within each chapter or to explore the entire book. DIVE RECORD This feature is a pictorial record of the plants or animals you have seen during your dive or just a walk on the beach it is not designed to replace your traditional dive log. It is a wonderful tool for divers, citizen scientists, and lovers of nature to record their observations of marine life when and where they were found. Is a simple and easy to use function that gives you ability to keep a unique record of your personal observations and share your discoveries with others. LIFE LIST With this app you have a unique opportunity to create a personal Life List that you can sync among all your mobile devices. The Follow feature allows you to create a “bucket list” of plants and animals that you would like to see. When another user records an animal on his/her dive record that is on your Following List, you will receive a notification indicating where and when it was observed. The “Notifications” section is dedicated to inform you of all upcoming dive related activities, such as club meetings, dive trips, classes and sales. The events that you choose to save can be easily added to your personal calendar. This mobile app is a modern field guide that allows the user to see and compare many images of an animal that you are investigating. This makes identification or observation of a behavior much easier. In order to experience beyond the capabilities of a book and take full advantage of this app, an annual subscription will be necessary. This will allow the user to benefit from creating, using, and saving your Life Lists, communicating observations, and sharing notifications of observed marine life with others. This sharing of information greatly enriches the distribution of knowledge of our marine world. The annual subscription is $ 12 US dollars/year, ($1 dollar a month.) We have been able to present this application and subscription to you at such a low price because we are relying on your support. The subscribers will help us to continue to pay for the servers and the communication in the cloud. This will greatly help unite us in our common goal of preserving of the marine world. Reviews of Marine Life

Leave a Review Marine Life
  • Limited species & not worth the cost

Very shallow coverage of fish species— only 57– with two photos per species and limited ID text in the species profiles. This would be an awesome 3$ app but is an incredible waste of money at 15, especially when most of its functionality is based on a small user base, and iNaturalist is free. It might be useful if actual rarities were in the species list, like tropical/Gulf Stream orphans, and you could “follow” species that are annual occurrences but tricky to see and genuinely worth getting alerts for. I wish I could ask for a refund.

    Developer Response

axhkf, welcome to Marine Life – North Atlantic app. We are glad to have you on board but we are very sorry that the application did not meet your expectations. In your review, you stated you would like to see a more extensive list of migrating marine animals passing through New England and Canada. It would be difficult for any guide to have every invertebrate species or migratory fish. Our area does not have the marine diversity of the tropical seas. We continue to add more species to the app, and at this time more than 25 species are about to be added. You have compared our app with the iNaturalist app, which is a much larger organization than ours with more extensive resources. MLNA does have many user advantages you can follow a creature and be notified when it is seen and the ability to receive notifications of marine life and diving events. We hope that future updates will improve your opinion of MLNA app and make you a satisfied member of the team.
  • Best Field Guide

Best field guide for marine life in New England. Nothing comes close...

Whether you are scuba diving, exploring tidal zones, or in any coastal habitants, this is the go to guide to learn about the local marine life.

Has great pictures, descriptions, and points of interest.

This is must have for anyone who loves the ocean...

  • Log your underwater observations

If you dive in the North Atlantic and look for marine life, then there is no better app to log all your observations in a neatly designed and easy to navigate application. My favorite part is to follow the animals and to get get notifications about their whereabouts. That’s so cool
