Scrolling down

What is it with the app that when reading an article and when you need to scroll down to keep reading the article it auto scrolls to the end of the article so then you scroll back up and find where you was

Comments

What is the point of allowing people to comment on posts if the said comments are going to get "Disabled"!
The comment I had disabled was a simple comment about how much it would cost me to tax my car if pence per mile was bought in because that was the headline of the article, very disappointed

I used to like this app…

Just updated the app and it is now inaccessible. Such a shame as I enjoy reading through it.
The problem has been fixed and I can now enjoy the app again. Many thanks.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. We have identified the issue and a fix has been put in place, the app should respond properly in due course as the fix propagates. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. The Reach PLC Apps Team

Articles

So now it’s dropped down to 15 “free” articles a week before you have to pay to read anymore! Thought that’s why there were adverts across the app!!
Suppose when limit is reached, we can always go and read them for free on Facebook instead😊

Not very accessible

I installed the app hoping it would be better than the website, but for me it is not. The main website is awful if you are visually impaired like me and need to use large type as the spacing around the title header and adverts enlarges too leaving only enough room to read a line or two at a time. If you use the “Reader” function in Safari you can get the right font size for articles without adverts in the way, but then you can’t read the comments, and the homepage of headlines isn’t enlarged properly and is still obscured by adverts.

I tried this app on my iPad which has larger fonts setup for apps that support dynamic type, but not all apps adopt this standard and it would appear the NL app does not either. The font might be slightly enlarged, but is about a quarter of the size I have tried to set it to. The app has an “Accessibility” tab but the only available option is to turn off animations in ads, which doesn’t seem to work anyway.

I’m going to delete the app and go back to struggling to see the website.

Articles copied and duplicated

Have been unhappy with the fact that they appear to mix news from other sources, repeating previous news items and even poor transactions at times with attention grabbing (and often misleading) headlines as a way of generating views for advertisers
Now their is a subscription to view more than around 2 paragraphs of the better articles so a nail in the coffin for me

Great for a quick catch up

Read most days first and last thing. From home or when away. Great just to keep updated
Thank you

Unreasonable app tracking

You need to individually disable all the (many) 3rd parties from being able to track you. My understanding of GDPR in the UK is that it requires the default position that apps do not track unless specifically approved by the user (ie opt-in not opt-out).

I decided to delete the app rather than spend time on this.

Background app refresh

App continues to refresh in the background even though I have turned this feature off in settings. This is causing a drain on my battery, background use by the app can exceed twelve hours over a twenty four hour period. I do not have this problem with any of my other apps whose refresh rates are limited to minutes as opposed to hours. My only solution is to delete Nottingham Live.

Nags for feedback

I have the iOS settings configured to disable requests for ratings and reviews. This app ignores that setting. 1 star for that alone.
Generally a poor app: slightly better (but only slightly) than the piss-poor web experience.

My initial review was in July 2019. Since then the app experience has deteriorated significantly, and continues to do so. I have now uninstalled the app as it is now no easier to use than the Nottingham Live web page.
