  • Iconic end of an era

Exciting and well-written, this is a densely packed story and a variety of stats to keep up with in nearly every choice you make. I enjoy playing something so complex, and as always everything ties together (though not very tightly) in the end. The Heroes Rise/Project series will always have a special place in my heart, as the first one was one of my first favorite Choice games. Additional comment: the complaints about social commentary within the series are a bit base. Where else do you explore different ideas than within entertainment and literature? I think the author executed these issues beautifully and I appreciate the parallels with modern society. Sad to see the end of this legendary series.

  • A satisfying conclusion for the series

Open Season corrects a lot of the issues from the previous installment, and comes close to capturing the thrill of the original trilogy. Having several of the main Hero Rise characters heavily involved in the plot was a great trip down memory lane, and the ending has enough variations that it felt like my choices ultimately mattered.

  • Bittersweet

I’ve been reading the series since it first came out. Each book has had such a profound effect on me. I fall in love with the characters and I fall in love with the adventure and heroism. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a hero, someone who protects others through any means. I want to be able to save people and bring out the good in the world. In reality I can’t do that, but by reading your books I can get a sense of what it’d be like. I can live out my hopes and childhood dreams. I can be the hero I’ve always wanted. It might be weird or childish but I truly just connect with each installment. I’m grateful to have been able to play these games. Please write a third Versus installment. ❤︎♥︎❤︎

  • Best choice game ever!

In my opinion, this is by far the best choice game I have ever played! It has such an amazing plot and I love how when making your character it gives different gender options and not the generic girl or boy and same goes for relationship choices! This game definitely kept me captivated and wanting to know what would happen next! I kinda wish it was just a little bit longer and went into more of what happened with everyone at the end but I’m not complaining! I definitely would recommend this to a friend!

  • Great end(?) to the series!

The last Heroes Rise book is the most ambitious one so far. There’s SO MUCH STUFF happening but in a way that you don’t get lost, and there’s plenty of different endings and choices to make! Can’t wait to find out more about certain things and have already done like five different playthroughs.
  • The Perfect Ending

I can honestly say that this has been my deepest pleasure to read and experience in my spare time. Characters, story, elaborate endings and plot, and to top it off all replayable over a 5 book series and to see it end in a blaze of glory unlike anything else brings a tear to my eye! Thank you Zachary Sergi.

  • I have one complaint

Why does ur power have to be transforming into the least effective most useless and crappy animals in existence. Like every day u wake up and ur something super pointless like a wheelchair bound peacock or a narwhal. The author even has the nerve to turn you into a tardigrade and then acts like that’s the most awesome transformation yet. Like r u kidding? Who wants to be a tardigrade... oh but at least once in a blue moon ur a leopard or something. Like hey, u got to write a story where u can be the creature of ur wildest fantasies. So why do all of those creatures have to be the worst

  • I’m so proud of my children

Ahhhhhh! That was me screaming into a void of excitement because I got to play as both of my children and choose their paths, plus that connection to VERSUS! I’m so pleased and so excited to go replay it immediately
  • Good, fitting end (with a few flaws)

The story is fundamentally about heroes rising, and your character certainly is given the chance to do this. (Spoiler) In the light of this theme, common to the preceding trilogy, your trip from nobody to legendary hero is fitting. It also gives you the chance to choose your way into a great character arc. The fights are dynamic and thrilling, the real choices you can give your old MC feel just as weighty to the character as the those in the main plot, and the balance between the trilogy protagonist and the new one is great — each with their own set of stats. The prose is still as enthralling as ever, and the intersectional themes from the last book are dialed back somewhat here, leaving more room to form your own story, but still managing to get the story’s important moral stated.
However, I do feel it seems sort of rushed at times, with plot lines progressing in quick succession, which can remove some of the weight from the narrative. Some of the character interactions are a little stiff, although that could just be the MC’s reserved personality. The cast might also be too heavy for the quickness, leaving some characters rather sidelined in development though they’re given attention in the plot.
All in all however, it’s a solid end to the series that’s fulfilling and has some impressive plot twists to boot. Worth your time.
