Don’t waste your money

Same as most other reviews, try to zoom in when offline and it just goes dark or blurs out.

Hi,

I have the app as a replacement for the now defunct ViewRanger. I have paid for the maps but can not download any of the 50 series? I’m running a 13 pro with the latest update. Thanks

Topo 50 maps won’t download

I’ve downloaded Topo 50 maps successfully in the past but I’m unable to download the one I need now - the app says an SSL error has occurred, despite me being on a good internet connection. So the app is unusable and I’ll have to buy a different product to get the topo maps I need.

Has been great, currently not

Like the title says, has been awesome. But in the past week, has started glitching where I can’t see further than 10km per square. Trying to download a map throws up an SSL error message which hasn’t been resolved with uninstalling-reinstalling the app, turning the phone off and on, or switching data-wifi.

No instructions!?

So I zoom into the area but lose all detail. There's no key to indicate what map is required to purchase? I'm sure it's really obvious to a regular user but as a new user it's frustrating and pointless.

Frustrating

Potentially great app but even with fully downloaded 50 maps, as you zoom in, the map disappears. It was a potentially deadly bug on my trip this week!!

Edit to provide more detail as requested. I downloaded several Topo50 maps to use on my trip (the ones covering the top of the South Island). They worked fine when in reception. When I was on my trip and out of cellphone range, every time I zoomed in to see the 50 detail, it was like they weren’t there as the 50 detail disappeared and I only had the 250. I don’t know if this was caused by being out of reception, or if it was because I had turned my phone off or on, or what. 🤷‍♀️

Hi, thanks for your feedback and for providing these details. Sorry to hear that the app didn't perform well on your trip. I have retested the app and unfortunately can not find a fault that would result in this behaviour. If this occurs again, please let me know. Your feedback is appreciated. To test that maps have downloaded correctly before you leave reception, simply put your phone in flight mode and view the maps.

Topo maps switches to regular maps when I zoom in

The app is great, but I can’t use it because of this issue. Every time I zoom in, the maps just go dark and I can’t see anything.

Good, but currently with a glitch

Been using the app successfully for ages, but recently it’s started glitching out by showing a dark screen if you zoom in too far on the topo map. It’s making it pretty much unusable. I’m going to try reinstalling and seeing if that makes any difference.

Can’t open kml over topo

I don’t like that when I open it says payment taken even though it’s never said there was an initial payment or how much!
I want to open my own kml waypoints and lines over the top of the topo but it will only open them on a plain basic map not the topo which makes the app pointless to me.

Hi Sleepy Alpacka, to show your kml routes on the map you will need to purchase the Routes in-app purchase first. The App Store will show you the cost before you pay and then ask for you to authorise the purchase. After purchasing the Routes in-app purchase, you'll also need to make sure you have selected the kml to display on the map. Tap the map icon next to the kml name to toggle the route between shown and hidden states.
