So disappointed in the business model

I understand the company needs to make changes to be sustainable. But a couple of things about the new limits for free users: for some with ADHD, it’s difficult to adapt to change especially after using a resource/tool to help with symptoms. 3 weeks isn’t much notice in my opinion; this only showed up on my app last week. With more notice, you’d have more time to consider and save for the premium plan. Which hasn’t actually had anything added to it in a quite a bit. This new change also hasn’t been updated in the app description so new users are being misled.

The other big issue is 10 minutes is not useful for sleep or focus. I don’t want to be interrupted every 10 minutes to reset the timer, I would lose my focus and get distracted. I’m of the opinion that an ad-tier would be better, at least an option to watch ads to unlock for a day.

Overall, this is an abrupt and extremely limiting move that even if I would want to pay for premium, I’d still hesitate to upgrade. It also makes me curious about the success and sustainability of the many partnerships and collaborations with other major brands.

Pomodoro Productivity

This is now my main app for focued work. Religiously use the pomodoro timer now to get things done, the music really helps to induce a flow / focused state. I think the music accross all themes is beautifully crafted, and where I used to go searching for these types of soundscapes this app provides what I need in one place.

I like the apps simple design and layout, unintrusive. I haven't used all its features yet, for example the Activity audio, but the sleep and focus audio is really effective.

However, a few features that would improve things for me:
- Can the IOS version of the app please support chromecast, not all of us are tied into the apple eco system, other audio based apps for IOS support both options. Have tried using the bluetooth with chromecast speakers but often find this disconnects randomly, possible bug with nest speakers.
- Can the 'focus timer' be added to the the mac desktop app, there is a timer but you have to reset it for each session, for the pomodoro time its good to commit to a number of rounds up front, otherwise its an extra distraction to restart.
- I'm on the student pricing currently which is generous for £16, feel like £60 a year would be a little too much otherwise, there are many apps that compete at this price point that are likely to be needed over this one if I was to make cuts. For £36 a year / £5 a month it would be a no brainer.

Love it minus random glitches

I have been using this app for about a month or a more, consistently at night to sleep. The nature option is wonderful at night for my tinnitus. I have had issues recently, probably within the last 2-3 weeks. The sound just stops, when I wake up it shows it is paused on my screen. That’s impossible because I’m sleeping. It’s not consistently doing this, it’s very random. Another issue I’m having is when I tune the nature sounds, sometimes it will not change the tune at all. Last night it kept changing the tune to daytime birds chirping or it would completely stop playing. To get it to respond and change tunes or even start playing again, I had to shut the app down and restart it. This happened, that I was aware of at least 5 times in the same hour. Until I finally gave up restarting it. Like I said I suffer from tinnitus, the ringing is unbearable, especially in silence. I do sleep with a fan on as well…but I’ve found this gives me a deeper sleep all around. It’s helped and done wonders for me. Please fix this annoying issue. I paid for the annual, and if this is going to keep happening, I deserve a full refund.

Hi there, thanks for your thorough report! We are working on this problem now and hope to fix it shortly. Sorry for this inconvenience! Have a good day!

Fun app but the cost is ludicrous

No one is paying over $5 at most to get atmospheric music that can be accessed for free on other platforms. Not in this lifetime. The ability to control the tempo and movement is not that valuable of a feature, especially when there is a level of predictability across all tracks.

Update: I’ve come back to Endel a year later and am quite disappointed with the quality of the music played. The tuning pad doesn’t create a strong perceivable difference in sound, and many of the presets sound similar to me. I think you could make do with fewer presets (say move, focus, relax, rise, or something like that) and then adding in more reactivity and sensitivity on the tuning pad for each. Move starts off the same way every time which gets boring after a while since it’s my go to; I really wish there would be a few more uptempo options. When the sound finally decides to redirect it often feels very sudden and unintegrated. I suffer from tinnitus and the tinnitus setting sounds like a thousand cicadas which was unnerving and painful, would much prefer something soothing like soft binaural tones.

Hi there, thanks a lot for your feedback! We understand that subscribing to our application may seem expensive, but we can assure you that this price is formed objectively from many factors, and if we could lower it, we would certainly do so. But we, of course, do not want Endel to provoke negative emotions among users, because its goal is absolutely the opposite. Therefore, now all new users have the opportunity to get a discount of up to 50%. Please, email us at ask@endel.io to find out more. Have a good day!

Great design

I really like this app, I’m grateful for the free version being a student. I use it to study mostly, sometimes for sleep. I dream of getting the premium one day. Really nicely designed too. Thanks creators!

Cancelation doesn’t work

I cancelled subscription before end of trial and still was charged and Apple would not refund.

Best one out there

I’ve used (and paid for) other apps that produce sounds to help you focus and be more productive, or to get to sleep. Endel is the one I’ve used the most. It’s always being improved and updated. While there are free ways to access focus music, Endel takes decisions out of the mix. Just tell it what you want to do and it finds sounds that will help you.
Sometimes it’s a bummer that their focus is on iOS rather than desktop. Features come to iOS first, I think I’ve observed.
There are two things in my Endel wishlist. First, sometimes I wish for a little more variety. I’ll admit that after a few hours using focus I sometimes need a break and go to an Apple Music playlist. The other wish is for an option for masking voice sounds like on Coffietivity. When I’m around conversations and need to focus, indistinguishable voices are useful to cover up the ones around me.

I thought it was dumb, and now I can’t get rid of it

It’s just noise. Themed noise. It’s the dumbest idea, and the pro version absolutely costs too much. I used to listen to my favorite songs and loved that, so the idea of themed noise that I didn’t really notice sounded so stupid to me. It still does. But you know what? It’s not overstimulating. It gives my brain a soundtrack to follow instead of making up it’s own soundtrack that will eventually distract it. When I find myself getting overwhelmed and my thoughts and sounds are blaring in my head, I just start up the app, and things calm down. I don’t really notice it, but I’ve realized that’s the point. It’s like a good soundtrack to a movie - you don’t really notice it but you REALLY notice when it’s not there.

It works better for relaxation and calm focus than it does energy. I’ll listen to my favorite music if I want to get up and go.

Free version is only 7 days

I downloaded based on the app description thinking the free version was just fewer features. While it is, it's only for 7 days then you’re cut off. Don’t waste the download.

Hi there! A paid subscription is a necessary format for us to develop Endel continually. However, we do not want our application to cause negative emotions, because its goal is the opposite. Therefore, all users have the opportunity to listen to Endel for free. More here endel.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010523860.

Manipulative sales tactics

This app only works on a subscription after the first week‼️⚠️
They hide the subscription signup behind 5 minutes of questions to get you invested and through a whole sales pitch.
There’s no way to try for free without signing up for an ongoing subscription that begins automatically after your free trial week is up. Almost like it’s preying on people who MAY NOT REMEMBER TO UNSUBSCRIBE ‼️⚠️
