Poor shot recognition

App interface is really solid, simple to use. I really like the way the monitor is set up and in the ONE session I was able to get feedback, really well organized within the app.

However this app (pre and post update) has abysmal shot recognition. I have gotten this to function properly once out of 10+ tries. I’m on pro version as well. The new set up is far better than the old setup, so at least the camera is in front view and not some bizarre angle. But I haven’t been able to get any shots recorded no matter what the conditions are. If you’re going to release a paid version of an app, you better make sure it does the basics first.

Response from developer

Hi Brandon Ribbs, thanks for taking the time to write a review and also for your feedback. We would love it if you send us an email at support@shotvisionapp.com to try and assist with the issues you are having? If there is something we need to fix it would be great to chat and make sure we address them. We also have a few questions with regards to iPhone device you were using (app only compatible with iPhone 6S and newer, no iPads), then which mode you were on (outdoor, indoor, flicker), lastly did you place the folded golf towel under the tripod when using the app as vibration causes tracking issues? Please pop us an email, we'd love to hear from you. All the best

Useless. A waste of $40

The many inconsistencies far outweigh any actual stats that it might occasionally capture….Needs massive improvement! I spend much more time dealing with the app’s problems than I do hitting balls. Frustrating to say the least.
I want to like this app but it makes me reset it every few shots, it fails to capture frequently and the audible setting fails regularly as well. It distracts me more than it helps me. Maybe a future version will be worthwhile.

Not accurate with SKILZ practice balls

Trying this out with several clubs on a new mat and SKILZ practice balls was fun but definitely not worth paying for at this time. I used the 2.0.5 version and it often missed my best strokes! The hit rate was well over 90%, but the total yardage was much shorter than expected. The stats were all over the place and I found that even the best keepers were shorter than expected. With the 2.0 version, I hit a 300+ yard 7 iron mixed in with some short shots. I enjoyed it as a novelty for a week and canceled it. Keep working on it.

Needs iPad support

It’s a great app in general, it tracks ball speed and almost everything if you pay for it the only downside is that I have an old phone which lags when I’m running the app and an iPad which doesn’t even work with the camera, it’s kind of annoying but please try to make it work.

Great customer service

Struggled to set up at first, but some E-nails with customer support afterwards and we seem good to go.

I’d suggest a secure tripod over a stand etc, helps the app/camera to register the ball etc.

Some inconsistencies and obviously wrong returns (260 yards carry for a 8-iron)… but that aside fairly happy, will look to use as a method to gap my clubs over the next week or so, will update review to reflect his close that is to my current understanding of carry distances etc.

Response from developer

Hi stunell014, thanks for the updated review and reaching out at support@shotvisionapp.com we are happy that you could get the app working like we know it does. As for the odd wrong reading, you can simply delete those shots from your session to accurately calculate and reflect your averages. There is also the new version 2.0.3 available with a few improvements that have been made to the app and the tracking.

Not accurate… no demo function available after update

I hit hybrid more than 200 m and this app says 175 m,And didn’t store my result properly so I had to update the app,Causing no more free version.

Garbage

I was eager to see how this worked. I was horrible disappointed. I had just used the launch monitor at my local range and indoor at Golf Galaxy. They tracked pretty close to each other in terms of ball speed, carry distance and swing speed. This app was so horribly off…garbage. My 5 wood goes on average about 208, 3 wood 220, 7 iron 150. With my driver swing speed typical around 92 mph. This app recorded my driver swing speed at 70 mph, my 3w, 5w and 7 iron distance at around 170, 150 and 130 yards. Not even close to accurate and if I trusted those on then course it would be a disaster. I tried using the app multiple times, adjusting position, recalibrating etc. It was never accurate. Worthless

Please check out version 2.0 now available! We built new tech from the ground up with a new setup that is easier to understand as it works much the same as other camera based launch monitors.

Save your money

This app just doesn’t cut it. If u want to know your swing speed the free version will give u that. The paid version that includes distance carried is a joke. It says I hit my six iron further than my driver. As others have said it seems to do pretty well with the shorter irons. Passed that it’s useless. Using iPhone and tripod. Outdoors in good light. My contact to support through their website was unanswered. Should have done the yearly so I got a seven day free trial. They don’t offer a trial on the monthly subscription for a reason.

3 stars so Far

Just started using the app. It doesn’t always pick up your shot even when you hit it well.

I’m using a 4ft T square to keep the ball and phone in the right place. The more accurate your ball placement the better the results.

I’m going to spring for the pro version. After using the app more I’ll update my review.
