Description of Camera for OBS Studio

If you've ever wanted to use your iPhone camera as a video & audio input to stream using OBS Studio, we've got you covered. We've tried all the apps that let you do it over WiFi, but they're not fast enough, so we also allow you to use a wired USB connection. QUALITY VIDEO Your iPhone/iPad camera's are good, really good. In fact, there’s no comparison between the highly recommended streaming webcam, the Logitech C922 HD Pro and the iPhone 6 Camera. Stream Landscape or Portrait video. AUDIO If you don't have a separate mic for your streaming setup, you can now use the microphone on your iOS device to stream audio & video. FRONT CAMERA Stream a selfie with the front camera support. Switch anytime during the stream with the familiar camera switch button. TAP TO FOCUS, PINCH TO ZOOM Controls just like you're used to from the Camera app. MANUAL CONTROLS Take control of the focus, exposure, white balance as you would on a manual DSLR camera. LOW LATENCY Stream video over a wired USB connection. This avoids the issue of delay over wifi, as many other solutions suffer from. This is just as fast as a USB webcam! USB & WIFI Choose the connection type. If you want low latency, use USB, if you'd like portability then use WiFi. WiFi is done using the NewTek™ NDI® protocol, so you can use Camera for OBS Studio with any NewTek™ NDI® compatible receiver. REMOTE CONTROL Control the app from your web browser on your computer. No need to have access to the device anymore to line up that shot perfectly. MULTIPLE DEVICES If you're lucky enough to own multiple iOS devices, use them together and produce a multi-camera stream. MAC AND PC Supports OBS Studio running on macOS and Windows. You will need to install the OBS Studio iOS Camera Plugin from our website, or use an NDI compatible receiver to use this app. For the best possible experience make sure your device is listed on our website https://obs.camera/docs/faqs/#what-ios-hardware-do-i-need MORE Subscriptions will be charged to your iTunes account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription will automatically renew unless automatic renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Reviews of Camera for OBS Studio

  • Almost perfect for my use case

Using my iPhone as a webcam is great and all, but I was really after the NDI streaming. Didn’t take much effort to get that working, so I don’t have any complaints there at all.

Only thing that had me on the fence between 4 and 5 stars was support for my external mic. I saw some comments about Bluetooth mic support but I’m using a Rode VideoMic Go II, which doesn’t appear to be detected by this app. Ultimately I decided it’s not a dealbreaker.
The flexibility to slap relatively cheap, commodity hardware onto a gimbal, hand it to someone, and say “here, run around and capture some cool footage” while flipping between the sources in OBS is what makes this worth it.
  • NDI doesn’t allow controls, USB is laggy

Not even an MVP. It used to work great but over the past 2 years of updates it’s gotten more broken. USB mode allows full camera controls but disconnects often and lags even in lower bandwidth settings over USB-C to a thunderbolt 4 port, totally unreliable.

NDI mode sends the app into a lockout mode where OBS actually works better than USB but does not allow manual camera controls, not even camera switching (wide, telephoto, ultra wide) these are the basics necessary for use and they are not available.

I also notice that anytime OBS is open, the app will go into connect mode and begin transmitting the camera to OBS even when not in use. I was sitting at my computer and felt my phone getting extremely hot in my pocket and realized connect mode through NDI turned itself on when OBS launches.

In conclusion, the app has potential but it seems the developers don’t have a grasp on actual use case scenarios that have glaring issues in functionality. I wouldn’t even go to market with this version personally. Please create tickets for USB connectivity issues and more importantly: create tickets for NDI mode camera control and manual connect mode prompt instead of auto connecting on OBS launch.

Also, feel free to contact me directly for additional information.

Thank you for the time and effort, this app is a few features away from being a game changer but where it currently stands it’s hardly an MVP. Happy to help.

    Developer Response

Hi BillyParagon, Sorry to hear about the issue.  Could you send me a video of the issue via our support page https://obs.camera/docs/contact/. Make sure to include as much details as possible. I will investigate as soon as possible. Thanks.
  • Quality app, but insane price

The app itself is great, but it’s not THAT much better than the competition and either wants a monthly fee equivalent to services that offer far more for the price, as well as being services that the customer drains the resources of (such as streaming video from a remote server), or a one time fee equivalent to that of a piece of software that has infinitely more production values and costs associated.

It’s an app I’d like to support but it’s just crazy overpriced for the category. Despite being able to afford it, I feel like I’d be rewarding extortion, as dramatic as that sounds.
