I can’t say enough great stuff about this app! The title makes it sound like it’s for casual tourists, but it really is more for practicing geoscientists. If you are doing geological research in Australia, especially if you are a foreigner coming to Oz for the first time, this app will save you tons of time. You don’t have to georeference your own copies of the 1:100,000 geological maps of your study areas in Australia and you don’t have to carry a lot of paper maps with you. Load this app into your tablet and download all the maps before your trip and you’re all set. The GPS in your phone or tablet communicates seamlessly with the app and lets you know exactly where you are at every moment. And, the maps are very well georeferenced. Be careful trusting the mapped roads, especially in the Outback, as many of the tracks vanish in just a few years of non-use. You can track your paths and use them later or share them with colleagues or graduate students who might be working in the same area - that way you only have to explore for useful roads once! Saving and exporting the tracks is a breeze!
Suggestions for improvement include using a double tap instead of a single tap to bring up the window that tells you what rock unit you’re in - I often brought up that window by accident, which can be really annoying. I also couldn’t easily figure out how to mark and save individual locations.
