Needs bug fixes and improvements

This app has a lot of potential, but it needs some work.

I have a few bugs to report. The apps built in sleep timer does not work. The iOS timer also will not shut it off with “Stop Playing”.
This renders it unusable for falling asleep.

When adjusting the sound settings, it often freezes up, requiring leaving and re entering the settings menu, to get it to work again. Also changing the sound settings is a little awkward, as it requires touching it in a certain place, before any of the settings on that line, will respond.

A suggestion for improvement would be, to have a master speed setting, that controls all the chimes in a group, while maintaining the individual differences, also the ability to set chimes to hit more slowly.
The ability to adjust all the chime sound settings in a chime group, with master settings, so you don’t have to do each one individually. That would be great for increasing the sustain of all the groups chimes, for example.

Control over the random nature, of the timing/strength of hits, to allow it to more closely match real wind chimes, which change speed and density, with rising/falling wind as is common in nature.

Please implement adding Audio Unit Extension support, so it can be used with other sound apps.

Best wishes for your success with fixes and improvements for this app.

Love this app!

The possibility of having an auv3 version becoming available is great 🤘would you consider having Ableton link and tempo as well as exposed parameters for midi in programs like AUM. It would be the easier for us to modulate the chimes in real-time with strange controllers and whatnot. Also with link it will pair up nicely with our system. And all systems :) we have always appreciated your product, but these have been the limitations. Great updates!!

How do you play this?

This makes beautiful sounding wind chimes, but I hear them from the several existing Melodie’s, but I can figure out how to make the chimes play. No touch of anything to make them sound. No instructions. I’ve read every part of the app but I can’t figure out how to make sounds.

Works on iOS v13.3

iPhone 8, iOS 12.4.1. Opens, but does not work. No sound, no scrolling of presets, icons remain dimmed except for triple line menu.

Part#2, uninstalled and reinstalled as per developer recommendations...no change, sorry to say.

Part#3, upgraded iOS to latest, now chimes work fine.

Response from developer

This is very strange. If you are not seeing an initial chime displayed in the view then something went wrong with your installation. Can you at least see a list of the builtin chimes? (Tap the triple line menu item and then pick Chime Mixes.) If that fails then I suggest you delete the app from your phone and reinstall it from the app store. HarmonicChimes has been tested on all iOS versions from 9.0 to 13.1.3. >Part #2 The first time you launch the app after installing from the store you will see a list of builtin Chime Mixes. There are 29 builtin Chime Mixes. Pick one by tapping a name in the list. If you are not seeing this list (you should) then tap the triple line menu item and select Chime Mixes to display the list. If none of this is working for you then I have no further advice to offer. I have tested this extensively on my iPhone running iOS 12.4.3 and I am not able to reproduce any problems. Do you also have an iPad? If you do, could you try the app on your pad? #3 I ’ve been thinking about this all day and had two thoughts. HarmonicChimes ships with a small 200kb SQLite database which contains the chime data. That database is copied to the user’s data area on the first launch. If for some reason it should fail to copy you would see an empty Chime Mix list. Why would it fail to copy? 1) the app in the store could be missing resources? I checked that by purchasing my own app and downloaded it just as you would. It runs just fine, as expected. 2) your iPhone is out of storage? Please check your iPhone’s available storage: goto Settings, search for Storage (general), and see if you have at least 200kb available. If your phone is full it is quite possible that the app can not make a copy of the chime database. I never thought that would happen but the next version will have an error log for unexpected situations. Please let me know if this is your problem. >Part #3 If HarmonicChimes is now working for you can you please change the title of your review so it does not say “does not work”? Thanks, and happy chiming!

Lovely and Unique

I truly enjoy the unique tonality and beauty of this app. The different combinations of chimes can produce lovely, warm tones, and other chime combinations produce sounds that are vibrant or even dissonant.

I played it quietly in the background of a holiday party, and after people started to notice it, they commented on how they loved the beautiful tones and how they drifted in and out of their consciousness.

I play it in the morning when I get up to set a peaceful mood, but I could easily imagine this being played in an art gallery, yoga studio, restaurant, garden, any place that could use the peaceful sounds of wind chimes,
