You did it

CarPlay is back and works great, did my first cruise last night and it was very fun.

It would be nice if the map had more customizations and earlier turn indications.

I think there is still room for improvement, but the foundation is finally incredible.

Download this App Now!

I’m a busy professional, a husband, and an involved father to two teenagers. I rarely write reviews because life keeps me so busy. However, I had to take a few minutes to write about one of the most amazing apps I’ve ever had the pleasure of using.

I live in South Florida but was visiting my father in southeastern Connecticut during an early October weekend. With some rare downtime, I decided to take advantage of the scenic drives New England offers in the fall. While searching for an app that could guide me through the best routes, Google directed me to the Roads app.

I embarked on an incredible trip from Uncasville, Connecticut, to Litchfield, Connecticut. For two and a half hours, I experienced pure joy. At 50 years old, not much tends to impress me anymore, but this app, and the stunning scenic tour it took me on, genuinely made my heart soar.

I only wish I had more time in New England to use this app and explore even more beautiful landscapes.

The app is free, but I wouldn’t hesitate to pay $50 if that’s what it took to use it again.

Go ahead, download it, and enjoy an amazing drive wherever you are.

No Apple Car Play

This is a great GPS app. However, a GPS app that doesn’t support Apple Car Play is pretty much next to useless. Until Apple Car Play is put back into the app, the rating doesn’t deserve more than 2 stars.

Love this app, ONLY WHEN CARPLAY WORKS

Listen I know they have to update the app, but it is peak driving season and most people really just want to use this app on their big screen on their cars. It’s crazy that the developers didn’t wait until winter to do some big change like this leaving the app pretty much useless unless you have someway to hold your phone up in your car. Which is illegal in a lot of places. Also ridiculous that they took away the GPX routing function and now have to go through a separate 3rd party app to make a route and then bring it in to Roads. Thank you very much for your review. We are happy to announce that with the latest update, we brought CarPlay back into the app. Feel free to update and enjoy ROADS on CarPlay.

Good idea but flawed implementation

The navigation is extremely simple and there seems to be no way to get voice guidance out of it despite there being a speaker icon on the UI that you can mute and unmute. With Waze for example I can choose whether to have audio come from the phone, as a Bluetooth phone call or as Bluetooth audio through the car speakers. This app has no controls for this at all so I have to keep checking the screen to see if I’m still on the route. Needs updating urgently.

Disappeared from CarPlay

The app was available on CarPlay until recently. Now no longer visible, it is not possible to safely navigate when driving.

What happened to CarPlay?

I read about this app and was very excited to try it. I downloaded it and was happy to see it showed up on my CarPlay so I could view it on the screen in my car. A couple of weeks later I was getting ready to go on a nice weekend drive and it was gone from my CarPlay. Guess I will have to find another option. This was so promising

Needs CarPlay support ASAP

Just dusted off this app again after initially not being impressed. Nice feature to plot a route to a destination. Did that today. It worked for the most part until I took a wrong turn and then it completely rerouted me away from the original route. It was towards the end, so I just decided to let the car’s navigation take me the rest of the way.

Main issue is the disappearance of CarPlay support. I understand that you completely redid the navigation, but without CarPlay support it’s kinda unusable. Had to prop up my phone, so I could see where to go, but that’s why I ended up taking a wrong turn. Also, worst voice guidance ever. Robotic voice from 1990, really?

There is potential. Discovered some nice new roads. Unfortunately they also turned out to be popular for cycling, so was stuck behind several cyclists throughout, but can’t really blame the app for that.

CarPlay option gone

I recently updated to the newest version with Phoenix navigation and the option to add
the app to CarPlay is gone. It was on CarPlay before I updated.

User-generated routes gone on map tab

While the auto-generated routes are a cool feature, I’m really struggling to see why user-generated routes were removed from the map tab in the app. Yes, I know I can see “best routes in the region” on the home tab and my favorited routes are still accessible, but I can no longer see what other app users may have created near me which is incredibly frustrating. I’m not sure why user-generated AND auto-generated routes can’t BOTH be visible on the map tab; that would keep everyone happy. Limiting the way we can use the app just feels like bad design. Also, I noticed when I do choose a user-generated route, it no longer takes me directly there and instead tries to make a “fun route” on the way there. While this might work for some users, I would rather just get to the route I wanna check out ASAP and do that route. Once again, options would be nice here. Please consider this feedback; I’ve really enjoyed using this app for about a year and these recent updates are admittedly disappointing.

Dear Mateomeoteo! Thank you very much for your review. We consider bringing the map back. Until then, you can find all user-generated routes on the dashboard. Simply adjust it to your region and scroll down to the bottom. There is a section that features available user-generated routes.
