Not so Commons thinking…

Life’s busy isn’t it. Sometimes we just need to say hold on a minute… pause forward… learn what we don’t know and make that part of the guide rails to our lives. The Commons App can walk you through some of the key decisions you need to make to redirect your time attention and finances. Think about it… what kind of a life and a world would you like your children to live in. Lead by example. #pauseforward #lifeisart ⚡️❤️💜💙⚡️

Overpriced & unnecessary

Just shop at thrift stores, that's far more sustainable, doesn't create more waste and is waaaay cheaper. This is greenwashing consumerism, you don't need any of this stuff and it's not making a difference. Shopping online is more polluting regardless because it adds the delivery step. Buying stuff will not help climate change, political action will, go out & get involved, fossil fuel money controls most governments & we have to take them back. Activism, organizing, direct action, even coordinated boycotts, but just get out there & do something

Is this just ads for some sustainable brands?

I was hoping to find out if the purchase choices that I’ve been making are a product of greenwashing or actually supporting sustainable companies…. But there are VERY few companies rated. Zero kids apparel. Also weirdly my spouse and I both set up accounts with the same info and got wildly different carbon footprints? I’m going to see how responsive developers are and then probably disconnect my accounts and delete.

Thank you for your feedback and giving the app a try! We just launched our brand ratings tool, starting with clothing and shoes categories. We are adding more brands each week! If you don’t see a brand you are looking for, you can request us to review it via a form both on the app and our website. Please contact us at info@thecommons.earth so that we can take a closer look at your carbon footprint estimates.

Nice app, but mostly for US & Canada

It’s well-designed, quick, and beautiful—top marks!

But any of the interactive or improvement actions are US and Canada-only, which makes it kinda a cute sustainability quote app for me :(

If they decide to expand internationally I imagine it’ll both do well (Germans would love something like this!) and would be 5/5 for me.

Great app to live more sustainably

This will help you see how you’re doing or give suggestions on what we can do to combat climate change. It feels good to make better choices.

Not very useful?

I had the app for a little bit, but all the changes it suggested weren’t very useful for those of us who live rurally or with a budget. I don’t take any flights per year, there is no such thing as public transport where I live (and biking or walking is not an option either). Most of the advice is geared towards people who live in cities I think. I wish there’d be more advice besides the basic ones. Also I don’t feel comfortable connecting my card to do the serious carbon tracking, and it wouldn’t help much since I really only ever use cash.

Great guidance

I like all the easy to read and easy to follow information and advice it provides. When I try to check my emissions, it is very difficult to understand all the factors involved and what should be my first steps. This app is giving me the perfect piece of guidance to feel confident on my first steps and keeps me curious to know an do more.

Forced acct

Before I decide if I want to engage with any app, I need to be able to look at it, explore features, decide if it is for me. Decide at what level I want to engage with it. Being forced to create an acct and give up private information about myself to a complete unknown is an automatic delete. Too bad sounded like a cool concept.

Motivating!

I’m just a teenager really wanting to play my part in helping the earth. Commons is really helpful and informative in how I can help! I’m even thinking about making a club at my school for helping our earth! :)

Got a warning on Facebook for violating community standards by sharing this app

What in the world! I apparently (don’t even remember) posted a link to this app on Facebook a week ago, and I got a warning that my content was removed for violating community standards! Specifically, it says “Spam. We don’t allow people to share or send anything that contains misleading links or content.” Is there something shady going on here? I’m removing this app in case it is predatory somehow unless the organization can explain.

Response from developer

Hi there, Thank you for trying out the Commons app and sharing it with your community! It appears that Facebook/Meta has mistakenly flagged our app links as spam recently, for no apparent reason and without giving us any explanation. It also appears that this has been resolved as we have tested sharing the links today and they are working fine. Please feel free to email us at info@thecommons.earth if you are still experiencing the issue. - Commons Team
