Unexpected Cost

This looks like an excellent app for guiding the practice of lectio divina. I wish, however, that you had been up front about there being a $10/month fee. I’m currently in seminary, living on a pastor’s salary, and have a family of four. I understand your need to cover your costs, but I cannot take on any new costs at this time. $10 isn't asking much, but it is more than I can currently shoulder.

Update: thank you for your response and the added information. $1.99/month is much easier on our tight budget.

Response from developer

Thank you for offering this review. Unfortunately what you saw was the cost that was being used in the development stage of the app. The actual subscription fee is $1.99 a month, this should be reflected when you sign up for a subscription, which is used for the upkeep and future versions. Sorry for the confusion.

Change of 2 stars to 4!

My frustrations with this app were answered by the developer within 24 hours. The directions were clear and easy to complete. I am impressed enough to change my rating!

Subscription interface

I agree with the other review below about having to subscribe for an account through a website rather than directly thru the app, as most other apps do. And that I cannot find a way to contact anyone about my subscription, cancellation, or other - no “contact us” link to be found (red flag, IMO). I’d very much like to use the app, but this policy makes me say no thanks. Hopefully I can obtain a bound and printed journal in the future. App is a good idea, but subscription method is a no-go.

Hello! Thank you for feedback. If you have any issues you'd like to further discuss feel free to shoot us an email at lectiodivinajournal@gmail.com. The subscription and the method in which the subscription is activated was our way to make sure that costs for the application is low and that content is consistently updated like our physical journals we create. We also wanted to keep costs low so that it will be accessible to as many people as possible. A single subscription also gives you access to your account on the iOS application as well as the web application found at lectiodivinajournal.com as well as the Android application. This is so that you can do your lectio divinas wherever it is convenient for you and is synced across all your applications with an Internet connection. In choosing to handle transactions and subscriptions outside of the application, we made sure that security is on of the highest priorities of ours as thus we chose an online payment processor called Stripe. Stripe adheres to a high level of encryption and security and is trusted by many of the largest tech companies around the world to run transactions around the world. We hope this brings you a peace of mind and thank you for using the Lectio Divina Journal application. Blessings.

Bad UX Choices

It is really inconvenient to not be able to sign-up through the app itself (you have to go to the main website), but it is the manually entering in my credit card information, which gives me pause. There’s no way to ensure that my information is protected (at least from the perception of the interface). I understand your cutting down on costs by not using a middle man, but I honestly think that choice will kill the app before it even starts, which is sad because the idea is great!

I am more than happy to pay the monthly subscription, but I would rather do it through something like Apple Pay for 1) ease and 2) ensured security of my credit information. It is also easier for me as a user to manage in terms of my subscriptions.

Hello! Thanks for checking out the application and providing your feedback. We are striving to do our best to provide the best experience. As you pointed out, we made the decision to keep costs low so that the application and its contents are easily accessible to as many people as possible. We have spent a great amount of resources to make this application a reality. We made the decision to keep costs low but still provide a high quality experience through the application. The nominal subscription is to make sure that the application and its content is consistently updated with content to guide you through your spiritual journey. We go through and create new entries every 6 months so that is stays consistent with the physical journals we create. A single subscription also gives you access to your account on the iOS application as well as the web application found at lectiodivinajournal.com as well as the Android application. This is so that you can do your lectio divinas wherever it is convenient for you and is synced across all your applications with an Internet connection. We can assure you that security is one of the highest priorities of ours and are using Stripe to process all transactions. Stripe is an online payment processor used by many of the largest tech companies around the world to run transactions. Your information is encrypted using AES-256 on Stripe's servers and never saved on our server. We hope this gives you peace of mind and thank you for using the Lectio Divina Journal application. Blessings.

Can’t access app

Disappointed that I can’t access the app. It tells you you need to subscribe to access to readings in app but 1. doesn’t let you create a login and 2. Doesn’t give you an option to use the app without a login.

So I have no idea how somebody can use this app?

Worked it out...
So, you have to go to the website and hand over your credit card details without knowing if the app is any good or the provider legitimate. It just seems to be a workaround to avoid paying the AppStore.

And after all that, I’m not feeling like exploring Lectio Divina through this app.

Love this App!

I am pleased with this app and it’s user friendly interface. For someone who does everything digital and archives digitally it’s a step in the right direction of keeping my daily study easy to access from my phone or computer!

Great Daily Devotional

This is a great app for doing a daily Bible study devotional. The Lectio Divina process works well to help prepare you to study and put you in a place to listen. I like that all my thoughts are saved on my phone and I can go back and review them easily.

Wonderful app!

I love that it saves everything I journal and has a calendar to look back at dates and easily review past entries. The built in timer is a great feature as well.

My favorite journal in app form!!

So glad to see my favorite journal in app form! I love that now it is always with me. The simple daily practice has been so transformative. I encourage everyone to try it!!
