November 18, 2020

The ARMAS app has been completely upgraded beyond just providing an ability to operate the ARMAS FM7 device (sold separately). Users can now see the real-time radiation environment in a global or regional context and for specific aircraft or suborbital vehicle flight tracks. The real-time space weather that causes variability in radiation exposure at altitudes above 26,000 ft. (8 km) is now available. Commercial and business jet pilots will find the alerts and unique aircraft flight track radiation environment information useful. Frequent flyers will find that they are now able to track their long-term radiation exposure. The general public interested in space weather will be able to track the events that cause major radiation risks. In app subscriptions are now available in this version.

Description of ARMAS

The Automated Radiation Measurements for Aerospace Safety (ARMAS) program has been developed with NASA funding. It provides accurate, real-time radiation monitoring along with radiation and space weather awareness for the global airspace up to 100 km altitude. The ARMAS app is part of this program and does two tasks: - it pairs with and controls the 7th generation ARMAS Flight Module (FM7) radiation detector (purchased separately) to provide the highest quality, real-time dose and dose rates in aircraft and suborbital vehicles. It is sensitive to radiation from all sources including heavy ions, alphas, protons, neutrons, electrons, and gamma-rays. - it provides radiation awareness by hosting real-time space weather data coming from dozens of ground- and space-based systems that report all the information relevant to radiation processes without requiring a purchase of the FM7. ARMAS is the 'gold-standard' in real-time radiation monitoring and awareness used by professional pilots, business travelers, and commercial space tourists. The ARMAS program is developed and operated by Space Environment Technologies, which specializes in space weather as an official NOAA "Weather Ready Nation" Ambassador.

Reviews of ARMAS

  • Now I can finally get my dose on flights

I am concerned about the amount of radiation exposure I am getting that can lead to cancer later in life.

The Premier version of this app is great. It allows me to get my estimated dose on flights, which I use to help me keep my monthly dose limits below recommended guidelines. No more searching websites and spending time to track down health related information regarding radiation. It’s all here in one place.

    Thanks ARMAS!
