Description of Thingealogy

Thingealogy: the story of your things! Thingealogy is a easy-to-use app designed to capture and share the stories of memorable belongings. It’s a delightful way to learn more about heirlooms and mementos, and to engage your family, friends, or customers in fun and meaningful conversations about these belongings. Includes prompts to: • Take photos of meaningful things • Record the story behind these belongings • Assign these recorded stories now known as “Things” to “Collections”. Example collections can include furniture, medals, heirlooms, letters, sports memorability, clocks, children’s artwork, paintings, china, record albums, photos. • Add more information in the Thing’s comment section which supports hyperlinks and additional photos. • Invite your friends and family to add comments when you share via Text, E-mail, etc. • Designate beneficiaries for Things if organizing your possessions for downsizing or estate planning purposes. All Things are assigned a QR code that is saved as a label-ready image. The label can be printed and affixed to back of things to aid in distribution or organization. Delight your family and start saving those stories today. Enjoy!

  • “Tell us about what you own “

This app wants to know all about the things we treasure!! The company gets access to the photos, descriptions, etc AND links these to our contact info (which the also have access to)!!!!!! Seriously?!?! Wow!!! Deleted
  • Great idea, terrible execution

It seems pretty apparent the one five star review was written by someone affiliated with this app. It doesn’t do what it says it will, it doesn’t save your comments, unless you go through contortions, and as noted by another reviewer, it has questionable privacy policies.
  • Read the privacy policy

I was curious after seeing a recommendation for this app in the Wall Street Journal. Take pictures of your family heirlooms and record details all about them so your heirs will know why you want them to have your priceless things.

When you read the app’s privacy policy, you’ll see that they use plain language to describe how they’ll collect all this information about your prized possessions and also share it with whoever else they think might be interested.

Sure, they say they’ll take reasonable measures to protect data from the likes of hackers and such, but they don’t make much pretense about not selling or giving away whatever information you put in the app to subsidiaries or future owners of their company or to whichever third-party companies or individuals they might decide to do business with.

You might do just as well to post pictures and descriptions of all your things on social media. Be sure to set those posts so they’re shareable with everyone!
