It’s okay

It’s nice, but not 5 star. I have had issues logging in before and there is nothing I can do to get around this or do any banking on the web. the UX is better than most banks but still not world class. I’m also not sure when I should use the banking app vs insurance vs standard discover app.

Ongoing Poor Service from Discovery Bank

I am incredibly frustrated with Discovery Bank's lack of communication and unresolved issues regarding a transaction dispute with TradingView. After a phone call to report the issue, I received an email with forms to complete. I had some questions and emailed them for clarification, but I received no response after a week's worth of follow-ups. Only after logging complaints with the complaints department, I finally hear back.

The dispute process took weeks, and I was informed that the disputed amount would be refunded in the meantime, while the investigation was still pending. However, I don’t understand why the refund was processed if the investigation hadn't been concluded. To make matters worse, this past weekend, the disputed transaction was debited again, without any update or explanation from Discovery Bank.

I reached out via email to seek insight into this new development, and once again, I have been completely ignored.

This isn't the first time I've had this issue with Discovery Bank. Last year, I had similar experiences with the Vitality Clicks claim and the airport lounge claim, where the agents made inaccurate statements, and I had to fight for any form of resolution. It’s extremely disappointing to see the same pattern repeat itself.

As a long-time customer, I expect much better service than this.

Worst bank and service - rather change your bank

They are the most difficult bank to get a hold of and not worth all the benefits. As even if you have discovery miles they scam you out of it which is what happened to me. I also found the app incredibly confusing and it does not share all transactions (I.e. discovery miles).

The complaints department is now ignoring my emails and I have escalated to the financial ombudsman.

Every single time I open the app I have to use both my biometrics and full login details to log in. Every. Single. Time.
I have chosen all options to remember my logins. Why ask biometrics AND login details.

Stuck before I even got started...

Was thrilled to see that the US was one of the included countries when I began the process of signing up, but after providing my phone number the very next piece of requested information is "ID Number", and that's where I was stopped in my tracks. Not only is it set to only let you use numeric keypad for this part of the form, it also requires an ID number of 13 digits. Alas, we here in the US, and more specifically in California, are coming up short with our mere 8 numbers given per ID. And actually, we really only have 7 because the first digits not even a number, it’s a freaking letter! Crazy right??!!.... I don’t blame you for not accommodating us during your sign up process...

Backward compatibility

No compatible app versions for iOS versions < 13 🤷‍♂️

Average app

Overall the app is ok. However, it still needs some work. It is slow and not very responsive. For the entire banking experience to happen through the application, it should be faster and more responsive.
There is a bug in the financial analyser, where foreign transactions are added as the same numerical value but in Rands. For example, €5 is added as R5, which is annoying to go back and correct.
Dark mode would be a nice addition.
