What an inducement

Looked good on the cover, downloaded, tested on some Chinese text, not quite as I thought, need to unlock premium content, why not be honest and give the choice to pay on the front screen. Deleted

We are very sorry that you had a negative experience with Text Capture. For now, we only support text recognition on latin alphabet languages, but we plan to support Chinese characters on a future update.

Probably best bet for OCR

It seems everyone is going towards the subscription model, which I hate. I looked at many OCR apps and no matter what the description said, they always ended up in some subscription model. A lot of deceptive marketing out there.

This app still kind of tricks you though. You download it and the OCR works, UNLESS you want to actually edit or copy that text.

Behold the in-app purchase.

It’s $1.99, but it’s a one-time fee to unlock that feature. I don’t think they had to hide that. The app is useless unless you pay it. Why not just say the app is not free, it’s $1.99? It’s totally worth that and I think given the other options out there, this is the best choice. Maybe not the most beautiful, but extremely intuitive.

The accuracy is okay, but I’ll let you in on a little secret, everyone uses the same open source OCR library. So, the greatest influencer on accuracy is the quality and contrast of the scan.

So I bought this app. If you want to buy another prettier one and pay $2.00 a month for some other app (for the rest of you life since you will likely forget you are paying) more power to you.
