  • Needs a lot of work, especially Apple Watch connectivity

WaterRower: thanks for making an app replacement for the antiquated, non-backlit built-in performance monitor. But I hope you’ll consider adding:

    - Apple Watch and Activity app integration
    - font size customization
    - workouts, any simple text prompts will do
    - user interface profiles that remember my settings.

  • Crap app and product

First off you need to purchase the Bluetooth ComModule $60 in order to use this app. When I paired the module to the app, I couldn’t get it to track my rowing. I tried to restart the module like the instructions said but it will not turn off no matter how long I hold the power button. I’ll be returning the module and deleting the app. I read all the other negative reviews stating that the app didn’t many features but I just wanted it to track what I had done. It couldn’t even do that.

  • Terribly Crude

This app needs a significant amount of work before I would encourage anyone to use it.
  • Getting very slowly better

This latest version delivered an interval timer and a really important fix so completed workouts show up quickly - makes the app functional but still very limited.

I mirror other reviewers here that the data it outputs is only half of what is recorded. Still no Apple Health integration and heart rate view/recording should be managed much better.

On a positive note, it makes a nice clear screen to view data whilst rowing and the interval timer implementation means I actually use the app now. So a definite improvement.

  • Beta App at Best

My expectation would be that the app would capture speed, stroke rate, and heart rate over time and upload them to Strave. Unfortunately it just captures overall distance and time as a manual entry in Strave. I’ll stick to Wahoo Fitness with an old Bluetooth speed sensor on the flywheel to capture my rows. This v1.3 app isn’t for anyone serious about their sports metrics. Hope v2 improves matters.

  • OK, but a long way to go

WaterRower Connect is a start, but the functionality is really limited at present. I got the Bluetooth module when Strava integration was added late last year.

It’s convenient to sync directly with Strava, albeit it takes quite a while to register the activity within the app and then transfer. The data covered is very rudimentary however. Surely, the app could measure pace over time and gather heart rate data at the very minimum. Compared to the kind of data from a Garmin for running or cycling, it’s extremely basic. I hope this is addressed with future upgrades.

  • Basic row log

Easy to use. Doesn’t send data to Apple Health app which was the reason I upgraded to the Bluetooth adapter.
  • Almost insulting

This app is so buggy and poorly developed, it’s almost insulting to us Waterrower customers. I tried really hard to work with the bugs and find the right sequence of tasks to enable the phone to connect correctly, and then push the workout to Strava. It bugs at every corner. Whoever built this did zero QA or UAT before pushing into production. I’m sending the Bluetooth dongle back and giving up on this.

  • Wish I bought a Concept2

So, finally have Bluetooth connectivity (kind of, at a cost and buggy), and this is the best they could do? Wait, to really get useful feedback you need to spend another $275 for the SmartRow add on. If compatibility and technology are important to you, go with the Concept2 erg.
  • Get idea in theory, but let down by poor Strava and Apple Watch/Health integration

I’ve just shelled out £100 on water rower blue tooth module and tablet arm in the hope that when combined with this App, I would be able to track my rows on Strava and do away with the need for a chest heart rate monitor as I have an Apple Watch. Turns out that this app does not pick up Apple Watch Heart rate or sync ton your Apple Health data and after several attempts can’t get the Strava integration to work either. Top off with no online manual, FAQs or help. Come on Water Rower you can do better than this!
