Description of Broken Place AR

Broken Place AR is an augmented reality music app. Surround yourself in synthesizer and groove box interfaces using your phone as a window into the virtual music space. Broken Place AR brings a new and exciting way to interact with music. Sound manipulation is generative making every experience unique. Even the slightest user input wildly randomizes the groove of sound on every interaction. Be sure you are using an iOS device iPhone 6s or newer. If you’re on iPad, just ensure you have a more recent chip that can handle AR. The music interface mechanics have been designed with great care to ensure that only one hand is needed to play. With a click/hold/rotate gesture, users are able to manipulate music parameters mapped to the sound patch. Many more improvements in this pursuit will be released as time goes on. Version 1.1 brings 3 song patches and a new save/recall feature for your patterns. Much more is in the works. Stay tuned for updates!

Reviews of Broken Place AR

  • Wow this is so cool

I can’t believe it’s several years old. Also can’t believe it’s several years old and no one else appears to really have entered this space. We need more AR on iOS! Anyway, this app rocks
  • Instructions?

Installed on iPad...got as far as seeing the rectangles and getting the large bars on screen making sounds, but see nothing like your sample images. For us slow folks, a little direction would help. Would love to revise rating if I had more to work with.

    Developer Response

Would love to help you out here and earn those stars! I hope you understand that prior to making this app free there were hardly any downloads and no reported issues so it’s been hard for me to anticipate the different configurations. When you have the rectangle on the ground drawn, tap the square and look around. Sometimes, depending on your location, the interface can appear behind you. I know that can be a bit confusing with no visual feedback. Maybe I can put out a future update that points you with arrows to the interface.
  • What Augmented Reality was meant for!

    WOW!

This app is fantastic. I was wondering how hard it would be to interact with an entire workstation, but the design basically gives you a fixed pointer to interact with each element, making the process easy. Most apps are prevented from being too complex because there’s only so much you can view, but by using augmented reality, you get the benefit of an entire workstation that you can navigate intuitively. The music creation station itself is familiar and easy to use, and it’s relaxing to have the ability to create music wherever you are. So awesome!!

    Developer Response

Thank you so much for the kind words BenBruin! I’m so glad that you liked the interaction mechanics! Ill be working extra hard on new features to make it accessible to more soon! :D
