6.4.14

January 3, 2024

Hey Mike; on the song info pane, the play button has the icon twice, how do you screw something like that up?! It's a good question. --- Happy New Year! If you are enjoying the app, please consider leaving a rating or review :)

6.4.13

December 28, 2023

Corrects a few visual issues. Of most note is that a user brought to my attention that the ascending/descending sort indicator is counter-intuitive for alphabetical vs. numerical sorts. This has been corrected visually – no actual sort preferences have been changed.

• Fixes issue with deprecated method used to create "4-up" grid artwork. This started causing crashes for some users in iOS 17.

6.4.10

• I missed the party, and did not know that the alphabet section index had been implemented in UICollectionView a while ago. So now this version uses the default functionality, and has 50% less third party dependencies :)

• New play and shuffle controls added to the "All Songs" view.

6.4.8

October 11, 2023

If you're the sort of user that searches within playlists, you may have noticed that the header could be a bit... janky. It is now much less that. (Also, if you are one of the 1% who updated to 6.4.7 this update restores affected pinned items.)

6.4.6

September 26, 2023

• Threading changes to the search logic. Most users with small-medium library should find no noticeable difference. Hopefully this will be the same for users with large libraries – the new code is more stable :) • Fixed bug that "locked" the Now Playing screen when accessed via URL.

6.4.5

March 15, 2023

• Menu updates • I get fairly regular reports from users that changing to alternate app icons does not work. I've double and triple checked, and the app is following Apple's documentation for alternate icons. App Icons are related to system caching, so if you are finding that the app icon is not updating it might be worth trying to restart the device and see if the issue corrects itself. If you are finding that the icon will persistently not update, let me know at cs@mclay.dev. Thanks!

Reviews of Cs Music Pro

  • Amazing app! Much nicer than the Music app

I’m constantly frustrated by the default Music app. There are lots of little things that just get in my way and annoy me (such as how the main screen shows your most recently added albums, so I end up seeing the same few albums for months at a time). This app lets you reorganize the main screen with favorites, pinned songs, and most recently PLAYED instead of recently ADDED. I’m still exploring all the options this app has, but it’s so far ahead of the built-in Music app that I can’t believe I only just now found it. Totally worth the few bucks.
(Also, I can’t tell if I love or hate the fact that it can tell you the total time you’ve spent listening to a particular song ha ha)
  • Nice while it lasted

This has been my music app of choice since Apple Music’s big redesign mire than half a decade ago. I still think it’s superior to the built-in app and any alternatives I’ve found, but this praise has a big caveat: the app appears to no longer be supported. There are several major issues that I’ve tried to report to the developer (punctuation breaks search, you can’t select artists or albums from search results) with no response, the “official” support page is a twitter account with no activity in the past year, and the developer website no longer exists at all.

All apps lose support eventually, so I can’t complain too much, especially at this price point. I just wish the developer had made it clear he’d moved on so I knew to start hunting for an alternative.
  • Well designed but critically flawed

This could be a great app. I love nearly everything about its design and UX. However the app immediately crashes when you use AirPlay to broadcast to an external speaker, which makes it unusable for me. This did not occur previously so I’m not sure what changed. Also this seems to have started happening around the iPadOS 16 release so there may be some interaction there. Until fixed, though, I have to revert to the native Music app.

Update: After some experimentation, this issue seems to be specific to AirPlay with a HomePod Mini. The app behaves fine when I use a non-Apple speaker. The fault could well lie with the HomePod rather than Cs.
