CamRanger 2 User Reviews

Awesome app for full control of your camera.

Works really well with the supplied cables, don’t use an inferior cable or you will not be able to connect to the CamRanger2 module. Good quality cables work fine if you need more cable length. Has lots of useful features and is very reliable, which is needed for professional work. Tried other products, but they just don’t quite measure up, this is a tough act to follow. I would like to be able to build macros to simplify things, hopefully that sort of thing will be in future updates.

A step backwards

The older version of this device was smaller, and had a longer battery life. The current version is large, awkward, and has two antennas, which are plastic and easy to break. The new one has more features, none of which I find useful, but you might. The biggest bummer is the battery life - I go through three batteries in a day. Don’t upgrade, but buy version two if you really need it. The company has excellent customer service.

Pleased emphasize this needs third party Denice

Looking for apps to control Sony camera. This pops up. Download and install. Turned out you need extra hardware.

Pleased include that at the TOP of the product description!

No Support For Canon R5C

CamRanger2 is causing the Canon R5C to crash when the camera is in Video mode. Please can you address this. Thank you!

camranger2

well, this app is pretty much perfect

Buggy

Tech support is great, but I was with a client at a shoot, and the software would not let me download images to my camera, so it stopped. Tech support said that an update would fix it shortly. Embarassing.

Response from developer

Yep, there was about a 20 hour period when the app had a bug and certain image formats from certain cameras would not download. Again, we apologize for any hassles.

Doesn’t work with newer Fuji cameras

A total let down. Their instructions only go up to the xt2 but I’m using an xt4 and it doesn’t pair with. Sales info and documentation is really misleading because it says it’s compatible. Will be trying to return or selling it on eBay. Capture one might be the only decent tethered option for Fuji cameras

Response from developer

The CamRanger 2 most definitely works with the XT4. It's probably the most popular Fuji camera used with the CamRanger. You can see the supported Fujifilm cameras here: https://camranger.com/knowledge-base/fujifilm-cameras/ And camera setup instructions are here: https://camranger.com/knowledge-base/fujifilm-setup/ Please do reach out if you need assistance as we are very responsive: https://camranger.com/contact/

Connectivity issues

The app and hardware work great, until the connection is lost. For no apparent reason connection is lost at random times and the only way to fix is to disconnect and reconnect the camera usb cable. Using Sony a7R3.

Response from developer

We would need a little more info to help troubleshoot. Please don't hesitate to reach out for assistance: https://camranger.com/contact/

Works GREAT on my iPad

So far I have been very pleased with both the app and the unit. I have been able to control my Nikon D500 at least a 100 yards away.

Focus stacking controls work really well!

You can also set up “burst” shots.

So far... solid A with great customer support.
