Accurate but hard to use User interface

The app seems to be working very accurately, however, the user interface is very finicky and could use some very basic upgrades, such as being able to save the most used coins. That way you don’t have to look for them every time, and improving the search function as it could be very difficult to find some coins

Not useful

Most the various coins are locked until you pay. I tried to test a few coins to try this app out and it doesn’t work. Clicked “check” then clinged my coin and nothing, tried again and again, doesn’t work. No waves no response nothing. My coins gonna get scratched up plus they keep falling onto the floor. Time for a new tester.

Zzz

Works pretty well. Sometimes see “network error” when trying to use, but usually it works.

Hello, we are sorry for what you have experienced. Would you please drop us a mail at preciouscointester@gmail.com with more details, so we can investigate and solve the issue?

Better than nothing

Gave me a 3/3 rating for a glass jar while testing for ASEs. Just another data point, don’t bet the house on just this app. Update - the right coin was selected, the point is you can fool the app with false positives.

Response from developer

Hello, the correct coin needs to be selected before performing the test in order to have a meaningful result. (Otherwise, you can use a musical instrument to get any result you want :D) You can find some best practices here: https://preciouscointester.com/en/best_practices.html

Disappointed

I bought to test U.S. 90% gold and silver coins. There are only 2 coins that be tested for free. A one silver dollar and a one ounce twenty dollar. No other denominations available without a subscription. Also, you can’t use the special parameters section without a description.

After paying $30 for the device, I expected more options.

Hello, we don't sell any device in our company. Maybe you mean the "pocket pinger". It belongs to a different company. The subscription fee helps us to maintain the app and improve it continuously. We are very sorry for your misunderstanding. If you could point out which pieces of information have misled you, it will be very helpful for us, and will the make it clearer.

Subscription plan likely limiting sales revenue

Econ 101: Price up = demand down

Subscriptions are generally reviled, so, perhaps you could increase your revenue by figuring a way to segment your prospective customer base.

Maybe a one-time fee for just the *custom* tester (i.e., no access to the coin library).
Or maybe:
One-time fee—say, $9.99—for access to the current database but some additional fee for the annual update (heck, and even a $1.99 annual “maintenance fee” for a “Basic” plan).

For example, I don’t buy rounds; I buy old silver. I’d pay 10 bucks for the current library, but I have no need for annual updates. Let those who need them have the option to buy them.

More money is made via a “Volume, volume, volume!” strategy than by exclusionary pricing. How many new “casual users” could you entice with a lower-priced “Basic” plan?

Hello, Thanks for your suggestions! Our updates are not limited to adding new coins, it also improves precision of existing ones, and fix false positive or false negative results if we found any. These updates help to better protect our users against fake coins. We also need to keep comply with the latest requirements from AppStore, which ensure the sustainability of the service. The subscription model fits the type of our expense for the moment. We will think about your suggestions and it may be more suitable later in the future. Thanks again for your suggestion and understanding!

Silver Libertad and Gold Maple Leaf

I have tested on these two 1 oz silver and gold coins. Very easy to find the coins in the search and I had ping tested everyone to my satisfaction.

Subscriptions subscriptions subscriptions

This subscription model is tired lame and needs to be put out of it’s misery. I’m not paying $36 a year for an app I might use 2 times a month. My dealer has a tester that I can use for free. If you want my money then either charge $.50 a month or 4.99 for a years worth of updates. Until the I’ll find another to check ALL of my coins for free.

What a joke! NOT very accurate!

This app is a joke for real. First of all, misleading to have access the manual feature so you are force to subscribe. After subscription, only then tells you that the manual is not 3/3 accurate. Also, the results are varies with the same coins. 2023 Britannia silver 1 oz is not even in the coin list. It so hard pick the region as it’s very sensitive when you’re rolling the region choices. Don’t waste your money to subscribe, its a useless tool.

Excellent App

Free version was more than enough for me. Allows you to select Buffalo Rounds. Was still able to test my Eagles with this too, as the size is all that matters. Tested bars and junk I have to see how legitimate the rounds tester is. Spot on every time. Can’t see how anyone could complain. Free version is good enough for me.
