Does this app even work anymore?
Response from developer
Please contact me at info@redsandresearch.com. Not sure why you didn't receive alerts. It alerts through notifications and through email. Make sure your notifications are turned on for this app. Contact us and let me know if you have not had success. We have never seen this issue before. If it isn't working for you we will offer a full refund.
Good, but utility issues
It is limited to federal campsites, so that is a practical limitation - notably excluding state-run campgrounds. And it looks within a radius set at 50 miles. For last minute campsite searches that may be too limited. Imagine yourself traveling and you want to find a last-minute campsite. You don't know exactly where you will end up. So, maybe you are willing to look within a range of 100 miles, or maybe even 150. Those who are planning camps with lots of lead time will probably use different apps. So, with this "notifier" it would probably be good to have a search focus on "where can we stay tonight" - that is, what are our options now. At least this is my view.
Response from developer
It is limited to Federal sites due to the API for federal being different than states. Many states don't even have a way to do this. Good points on all accounts. Most cancellations happen within the last week but some are obviously further out. We tried to make it so you could get a campsite last minute. We will keep your ideas in mind for future updates.
Requires you to download an app and create an account to find out they don’t support your campground
Supports fewer campgrounds than other competing services.
Response from developer
It states this if for Federal (National Parks, National Forest, BLM, etc). The API for state and local campsites are either non-existent or don't work well. RE other services that offer this; there are a number out there that offer a paid service for non-guaranteed sites. They use web scrappers, overseas workers, and other methods to do so. We don't offer this. Ours is for Federal only and we are the only ones that will actually get you a site. Non-pay sites get too many hits and the Feds govern down the traffic. We always outperform these sites.
Good user interface, requires payment for more than one search
Response from developer
The app looks for the first date that you put in. The reason it does this is to provide the highest likelihood of finding a campsite. We do offer a free trial for a couple of tries. The costs are borne to pay developers, API integration, and hosting. If you would like to try again please let us know and we would be happy to give you a couple extra credits. contact me at bobwalter@campsitenotifier.com and I will help you out.
Third time I’ve found campsite
“Cannot Load Results”
Response from developer
I've attempted to reach out to you multiple times. Please contact me at bobwalter@campsitenotifier.com. This app is for National Parks, National Forest, BLM and other federal lands. We haven't implemented State and Local yet as many don't have an API. But contact me and I will see if there is any way I can help!
Not user friendly
Response from developer
Please contact met at bobwalter@campsitenotifier.com At the time you posted this Apple's IOS had changed underlying code. We have subsequently fixed. I have attempted to reach out to you but have been unable. If you contact me I can upgrade your account.
Super handy app!
Poor listings
Response from developer
Sorry that it wasn't more clear that this was only for Federal Campgrounds (National Park, National Forest, BLM, etc). We are working to add individual campgrounds but that is difficult as the different API/Interfaces they have. We don't collect emails for mailing list and it appears you are using the free version. If you did pay under a different name please email us and I will fully refund. I appreciate your note and feedback. When we get the state/local campgrounds put out I will send you that version with unlimited trials so you can re-review. Thanks for your time.
Absolutely horrible app
I am totally rescinding my prior review and will use the app as intended. Unfortunately I live in an area that has very few federal campsites…
Terrible. Difficult to use. App continually says “no campsites in area”….as in the entire state of Florida. Shows three useless sites in Watkins glen NY and totally misses the state park. This app is useless and a waste of money.
Response from developer
The app will only show Federal campsites, as stated, such as National Park, National Forest, BLM, etc. State and Local campsites all have their own interfaces which are different. We will be coming out with a product for next year for those areas. So for now, you can get any recreation.gov campsite notification. It appears you used the free version but if bought it under a different name we will be happy to refund your money. Thanks for the note!
