  • Yodlee connectivity issues are persistent

I have used Banktivity for several years now and the biggest issues arise from connections due to using a 3rd party connection through Yodlee. I always have at least 1 account that will not connect or requires me to disconnect and reconnect to get it working again. I tried to contact Banktivity through their websites Customer Service link, but there is no email address once there. It states you can chat, but during business hours and the chat button is grayed out and you can't chat. I think it's time to look for another provider.

  • Know what you are doing before using

This is a great app to keep track of multiple account. You need to understand not all instituitions comply with the manual downloads. Some only give you bits of information and you need to sort it out. Banktivity trys its best but can only import the data given to it.

The Direct download works great when you set rules into place.

Don't just jump in and think this app is going to connect to everybank and and brokerage out there. You need to understand the data you are given from the institutions so don't get frustrated with Bankitivty. Call your institution.

  • Excellent Home Finance and Budgetting App.

Been using Banktivity for several years now and wouldn't be without it.
  • Great Software

I am a long time user (started @ v3 or v4). It was easy to see the difference between this and Quicken for personal fianances and I never looked back. Yes, the reviews point out what is lacking in the software. Yes, it's a bit pricey, especially if you want bells and whistles and on multiple devices (I'm a Silver Subscriber). That said, Banktivity makes personal banking so much easier. I use the historical data of the last 10-15 years quite frequently. Customer service has always been super responsive.

  • Very Solid Financial Software

I have been using this software for over a decade and have witnessed continued development and improvement over the years. Banktivity downloads bank and credit card charges, saving me a ton of time in data entry. I have used this software for budgeting, expense tracking, and even retirement planning. I am very happy with the software and know that the developers will continue to improve functionality and ease of use.

  • The Best App of it’s Kind

Strangely, I avoided this app for a while thinking something that runs exclusively on Apple products could not have the breadth and attention of other products.

I have used Mint, YNAB, PocketSmith, and others, all of which became too frustrating to use. The automated connections would constantly fail.

Banktivity works quite well. The transaction import rules are a bit of a weak spot, would ideally be more configurable.

But this minor issue is outshined by the excellent pre-configured, “on demand” transaction importing. Just uncheck “automatically download transactions”, and then press refresh when you want to download them.

It’s not perfect, but this is the fault of Canadian Banks, not Banktivity. Other apps are always trying to do so automatically, which looks like a security risk to bank sign ons. Having control over when these transaction updates happen means you are always available to supply your 2 factor authentication information when the bank asks for it. Automated systems that can’t do this, likely look like “suspicious connection attempts” which may be why such a design has so many reliability issues.

Pro tip - make sure the “always display connection window for this bank” is checked for each account. That way you can watch transaction download progress, and have an up front window pop up, if you need to supply the 2 factor authentication information for your account.

Bankivity documentation is also a little bit weak, I do find the loans and mortgages awkward, not sure I fully get them. OTOH having investment tracking is awesome.

I still give the apps a full 5 stars, as at its core, as it is the ONLY app of its kind that I continue to use. Why? Because unlike other apps, this one is less of a chore. “On demand” pre-configured connection based importing is the best solution, given the current abysmal state of Canadian electronic banking.

  • Not a great companion for the desktop app

Banktivity for Mac is in my opinion, the best budgeting/financial management app on MacOS. The iOS version however, leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly, the sync does not work very often. If you categorize a purchase on the Mac app, and then a day delayed try to sync it on iOS, your categorizations will not be present. Speaking of categorization, you cannot search for a certain category, you have to manually scroll to select it. AND, you have to select “edit” first which seems like an unnecessary added step. At any rate, check out Banktivity for Mac and you won’t be disappointed. But only use it on Mac.

  • Great app but does not work well

This app has all the features I need, I just can’t get it to sync properly. It will take over a week just to sync once. This does not help if I need it multiple times a day. Works better on the iPad then the iPhone but even that won’t sync between them.
Customer service is non existent. I have contacted them for help and have never gotten a reply.

  • Ease of use makes Banktivity stand out

After decades of being abused by Intuit with Quicken for Mac lagging in just about every aspect of modern financial management, Banktivity is a joy to use daily. I've appreciated every update over many release cycles. The ability to drag-and-drop transactions to merge, drag-and-drop transactions between accounts, sort and manually reorder transactions, make bulk updates to change Payee, Category, or Tag, and so many other usability features really enhance the value of this app. IGG has worked tirelessly to add and maintain connections to hundreds of financial institutions through the Yodlee and Plaid platforms to make downloading transactions easy. The Reports modules are very flexible and simple to set up and change. I make extensive use of Scheduled Transactions to ensure I don't forget an upcoming payment (it's simple to change a Scheduled Payment without disturbing the series of payments, too). It's easy to manage financial app accounts, like PayPal, Venmo, and Apple Cash, along with mortgage, retirement, and investment accounts. And budgeting is easy as well. Lots to like here.
