The app I’ve needed
As an open-micer, you go through material at an abundant rate. Finding what works, what doesn’t, punching up bits, etc. pen and paper has scribbles everywhere. Phone notes are scatter brained and sometimes forgettable. This app has helped me to combine all my various forms of writing into one compilation of jokes, punches, and even commentary for my own purposes on each joke. Even challenges you to write everyday. I originally had a similar app on my android, but it was unavailable for iPhone, so I got this. Similar format except on the other, you could record yourself telling the joke and clock your time. You could also use keywords which helped immensely when building sets and creating segways. There was also a 🔥/💣 button to keep track of what worked vs what didn’t, so you could scrap or improve.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Plan to pay for premium!! I didn’t realize that if I didn’t, all my work would be TERMINATED without being able to restore. 🤬 I’m actually nervous that despite paying for premium, I received another membership prompt which leads me to believe my work is in jeopardy, so I reapplied. Turns out my other membership was still active, so I canceled one before I was charged twice. Now I’m waiting, clenched butthole, to see if somehow instead of auto renewal, it’s going to delete everything I’ve worked on for the past year. 😬

👆🏼Inaccurate review :) Hey Eddy! Most of the things you’ve mentioned are supported in The Gag already. You can time each gag in its settings, you can use stage-mode & set history to track crowd reactions. You can label every gag and have it organized. As for the backup, one of the first onboarding screens asks you if you wish to back up your material so it’s not hidden. Other than that, you can always export your material in the settings. It’s yours to take at any time! :) Last, there is a bug that prompts you to re-log-in but it’ll be fixed with the next version. If you’ve subscribed and logged in, your material is safe. I’ve been writing my StandApp jokes in the iPhone notes app for ever. And as I’ve just started doing open mics I wanted to organise them in a really cool app.
This app does exactly that in a really good way. It’s very functional and easy to use.
I also love the way you can book? gigs with it too. Have not used that function yet but will hopefully update this review when I do.

I love this app. I’ve tried a bunch of different ones for joke organizing, but The Gag is the only one that was user friendly and up to date. When I had trouble downloading my material, I was helped immediately and was able to restore it. Can’t say enough good things about the app, definitely worth it to pay the $10/year or whatever it was. My only suggestion to make it better would be to allow viewing/editing of the gag contents when they’re in a set. Other than that, this is my favorite app on my phone.Show lessThe Comedy Chef

As a programmer I’ve written numerous apps to help me do this or that, and being new to the standup world I figured I would do the same thing again. And then I discovered The Gag and part of me was a little disappointed that I didn’t need to (get to!) code up some thing else. ;) It’s great having my own “joke bank“ in my pocket all the time. When I get a new idea, I can quickly enter it and then later add it to an existing set or create a new set. Being able to label each joke with multiple labels means it’s really easy to find jokes on specific topics. Also, the developer is very responsive, and quickly tweaked a couple things that I let him know about. It’s a really great app and I’m glad I found it.Show lessJay Jennings

Before this app, I was disorganized. Every set list I made was a struggle. It was always last min, I would fumble around. Now I can cater my sets to the venue or themed show, I can upload notes and adjustments. I feel less stress and I feel like a well-oiled machine.lillymarlena

Nice to see an app dedicated to standup - was about to setup a website for this very purpose. 4 stars only because it would be nice to have a social component to this as well where we can connect with other budding comedians and work on things together where necessary. Almost a concept of a private and public space for your material. Any thoughts on that? Also not sure if it’s a bug - but I also have experienced loss of material even though I had clicked save on the top right. Opened the app today and see only half of my jokes in one of the sets.Show lessMB_standup

The primary purpose of this app is to store files in the cloud. The app deletes content that you’ve saved. If I hadn’t trusted this app, I wouldn’t have lost WEEKS of work because they didn’t bother to make auto-save functional.
Apparently my fault for trusting them with my data. Don’t make the same mistake I did, and CERTAINLY don’t pay for it.Show lessakruel

This is a bit of an unfair review :\ One user experience most certainly does not represents many others. I'm very sorry to hear about your experience and you can easily contact me via the app (it's not a hidden option as I want to hear about such issues and fix them). Everything is backed up in the cloud and if the app can't retrieve the material for some reason, there are ways to restore it. Leaving 1 star is not one of these ways. I left a previous review with 1 star. I would remove that if I could figure out how. My iPhone had been broken and when reloading the app on a mew phone my bits wouldn’t download onto the new device. There was a challenge with getting help. I think because the initial response to my request for help may have been an auto response things got mixed up. Regardless. Amitay spent the better part of a SATURDAY morning helping me restore my lost data. I couldn’t be more grateful.
