A live saver

I was recently diagnosed with a condition that prevents me from eating a very large list of foods. Using the Spoonful app has literally saved my life by allowing me to make safe food and supplement choices.
Thank you Spoonful team!!

Helps me a lot

Was diagnosed with with celiac in June of this year 2024 and was at a loss when buying groceries. Being able to scan food items when shopping has made it a lot easier on me . Thanks :)

So far so good

I’m having endless digestive issues; after trying various deletions I decided to try low FODMAP, which seems really daunting to navigate. I just found this app, & it seems to make the whole complex process easier. I have tried it on a few made-in-Canada products; one product was in Spoonful’s database, one I had to add but the app could at least give an estimate of the product’s suitability. I think this app will really help me with a low FODMAP diet. 4 stars only because I haven’t had a chance to try it further.

Update- suggestion - ability to scan in a recipe, useful to know if you should make it as is or can modify. After 4 days of using it I find it very useful.

Great App!!

This app has saved me from being glutened as I’m Celiac!!! It’s good to be sure as gluten is hidden in lots of foods and spices.

I would totally recommend!

Not helpful for corn allergies

I love the app idea and the layout but unfortunately, this shouldn’t be used if you have a corn allergy. When looking for “certified corn-free products,” nothing comes up. The “compliant” corn-free products that do come up are often reported to be cross contaminated by others with this allergy.

A corn allergy is extremely difficult to navigate so kudos to the developer for even including it on here. However, if you want to find corn-free food or gluten-free food and you DONT have a life threatening allergy, this is a great app even with the free option.

Great service

There was an item I looked for that didn’t show up, the app took me thru taking a photo to submit it and I expected to have to wait a while for a result but it was instant, very impressed

INACCURATE FOR SIBO/IBS

When I got diagnosed and realized I had to stick to a low fodmap diet, I tried every app around and spoonful on the browser was helping and accurate 99% of the time. The app had been great for a while until recently many foods suggested as safe suddenly became triggers. Furthermore, some of these were foods and brands that I seem to recall looking up in the past and weren’t safe but now suddenly were ok? I asked other fodmappers on reddit if they had noticed any change with the app accuracy with SIBO/IBS and surprisingly several had the same experience. One person who had done more research said that she found certain brands were sponsoring the company behind the app to add their app to promote their foods to people with low fodmap so people would stop avoiding them. This seems to be congruent with my experience of suddenly getting pains and bloating again after originally loving using spoonful on the web. What is even more sketchy is the thread has been ‘removed’ (likely from request from spoonful) despite not having broken any rules. I’d encourage anyone who had downloaded this app to reconsider using it in the future and just stick with the web version from now on. You are worth more than to have to deal with the flare ups and this app clearly has sold out.
