  • Completely inaccurate

I was super excited to get this app as I am 30 years old and just found out I have a gluten allergy I all of a sudden developed. There has been multiple things I have scanned and the app says it contains gluten! Yet on the product I am scanning it says gluten free right on it! I’m not sure if some of the bar codes didn’t change and the product did? But I have no use for it it’s easier now because the grocery stores are starting to label their products gluten free next to the price that but I did still have a use for it if I’m at someone’s house or someone is offering me something at work. But I can say I don’t trust this app one bit because it’s been multiple times it’s gave me incorrect information. Don’t waste your money if you get as sick as me or whatever your reason may be. It just a waste of time I bought the year subscription and I have had it since Jan 25th and today I canceled the subscription and it’s may 21. So I have used it plenty. I hope my review helps someone like me who is scared to eat, but loves eating! Just be careful and cook at home. Cross contamination is the worst!

  • A spoonful of good vibes

I’m literally living by this app and have been for probably six months now. Upon having to make many dietary changes due to allergies and intolerances. This app, no joke, has been a lifesaver. I’ve added a gazillion products to the database, I scan everything. Having a tool in your hand that will give you a red-light or a green-light instantly while grocery shopping could not be more important to choosing what will actually be “ok” for you to eat. It makes the hard work just a little easier.
    10/10 - Go Spoonful!

  • Very helpful app!

I have been using this app to help my mother navigate the low fodmap diet. Learning how to read labels for fod friendly foods is pretty tricky especially in the beginning and using this app has definitely simplified the process! (As much as possible) I came across an item in the grocery store and I was unsure if was a product that would suit my moms diet. I scanned the items barcode and saw it was not in the database. I followed the on screen prompts to send clear photos of the packaging and ingredient list and I received a reply in less than 24 hrs! . Highly recommend this app

  • Frustrated user…lack of kind/understanding support from Spoonful

I have been locked out of my account for 3 months. I have attempted logging in 20+ times now and one of two things happen: I never receive an email with the login link or it takes so long for the email to come that the link expires. When I tried contacting the developer I never saw any responses. Then after sending a frustrated email, I finally saw a response from the CMO who was not very kind in his response (apparently his messages went to my junk mail and since they were from his email my attempts to search for spoonful did not pull his messages up). I explained my position and the CMO has continued to interact with me in an unhelpful, unforgiving way. I sent another response asking for someone else on the team to help me and today I received a message from the CMO stating, “It would be best to part ways. There are lots of great apps out there”. He sent me a link to request a refund, but apple requires a refund request be made within 2 months of purchase, which would have been March when I wasn’t having problems.

Finally, after calling apple rather than going through the automated online refund request and talking with a supervisor I’m going to get a prorated refund for the remainder of the year, so maybe 3 more months of service refunded. I would have rather had some help logging in and getting my full year of service but I’ll take what I can get at this point.

I do not recommend this app.

  • Extremely helpful

I signed up for the free trial, but I was skeptical. Within 24 hours I knew I’d be continuing my subscription - this app is SO helpful. I was super impressed that I could submit a product I use on the daily and get results in less than 24 hours! Thanks to Spoonful, I now know my protein and pre workout are compliant. This app will also be especially helpful since I travel for work - it’s going to be a godsend while trying to stay on track while living out of a hotel. THANK YOU to the creators who are making this low FODMAP journey SO much easier.

  • Low FODMAP not accurate

I’ve been using this app that I paid money for about two weeks now. At first, I was relieved to have it. But I have found it to be pretty inaccurate a lot of the time. And not always user-friendly. But now today I know for certain that it is definitely not reliable. I put in pretzels in the Spoonful search engine. For those to be low FODMAP they have to be gluten-free. Each ingredient in the pretzel also needs to be low FODMAP. (The Monash app gives more detail regarding Low Fodmap ingredients.) After putting in pretzels, the Spoonful app gives many items a green checkmark. at a glance, I was hesitant that these items could all actually be low FODMAP. When I clicked on the ingredients, they were not listed. Many items that got the green check mark were like gift baskets that had pretzels in them. For these gift baskets of pretzels and meats and cheeses to be low, FODMAP, the meats would have to be onion and garlic free. No ingredients were listed for any of the items. I googled one of the pretzel brands to see what the ingredients are. First Ingredient is wheat. Not low FODMAP yet spoonful was giving it a green checkmark. A notation that is supposed to indicate that you can sagely eating that food. Spoonful cannot be trusted.

  • Amazing app

I’d advise you to use this app as an additional tool in helping more quickly figure out if you can or can’t safely eat something. I still closely read ingredients on food I buy, if this app greenlights it. But, it saves a lot of time by barcode scanning and immediately showing me suspicious or no-go ingredients.

On one hand, not all data is 100% accurate. But on the other hand, this app has saved me countless hours of standing in stores Googling. And, I found if I report an item as having inaccurate info, the support/dev team is super quick in not only updating/fixing the data, but also in messaging you to say thank you for helping keep data accurate.

At first glance it might be easy to focus on all the missing data for misc lesser-known products. But honestly their database is impressive. There are even locally-produced food products that I’ve even found in the app with accurate info attached.
The longer the app is alive, the more data it’ll have for us to reference.

This is a very impressive app and being low fodmap, gluten free, and lactose free, I’m thankful for Spoonful and I’ll be using it for as long as my body has me eating so carefully (1.5yrs and counting).

  • Makes life much easier!

I’m an absolute penny pincher but when it comes to my health, this is where those saved Pennie’s come in. I LOVE the convenience & intelligence behind the design of the Spoonful app. Just found out two items I thought were low FODMAP weren’t actually because I scanned them in the app- no wonder my stomach was hurting 🥲
Seriously, if you are anything like me; IBS, GERD, gastritis, what have you, it’s worth every Penny! Thanks for the amazing team at Spoonful for making a difference in people’s lives!

  • More than helpful!

I’m so glad I purchased this app. I was clueless as to how to really begin my fodmap diet. After learning more about what was causing my stomach distention, I was able to scan processed foods to see if they were low fod map. It’s not an easy diet to follow but the Spoonful app has been like having a dietitian with me at the supermarket! An added personal touch is that if you scan an item and if it’s not already scanned in the app, you can send app the barcode and get an answer through your personal email within 24 to 48 hours. To sum it up, this app has been more than helpful to me!

  • My fave list?

I haven't been shopping since I picked this up a few days ago- Where have you been‽ - because I'm immunocompromised. Also my (IBS) gut is absolutely miserable so I don't want to eat or drink more than particular granolas and drink green tea and I'm well stocked on them. Instead, I've been scanning what's around, including OTC meds, etc. Enlightening. (Nary a crash- the woman having crash issues might want to poke around at settings, get rid of location tracking, background refresh, automatic updates, etc when they're not needed and delete apps she's not using. She may want to check her battery use; what's running in the background?) I'm sure you all know it's not as easy as just buying gluten-free because pear juice is in some bread, mannitol is in Bean-o (Bean-zyme to the rescue!) My faves though- why can't I just plop something into it from general lists? Or can I? I don't see how. Please help.
