  • Good, but not a fan of the notifications

Overall this is a good app with many useful features. However, what I don’t like is when you go to the app to view your notifications, you have to click on ALL of them in order for the notification icon to turn off. Even though most of the notifications are a countdown of the # of days or weeks until our next meeting and I can see this without having to click on the messsge and then go back.

  • Navigation can be confusing, but still a great app

Navigating the various sections of the app isn’t entirely intuitive (at least not to me), but overall, this is a well-designed and fun app to use. There’s more than one place to message your book club friends, so if Messages could be streamlined into one location, I think that could help to make it less confusing. My book club has missed messages because some of us were posting in the “wrong” place.

Thank you for this feedback. It sounds like potentially there was some confusion between using the club's message board and DMs? We are planning on updating our messaging functionality in the new year and would love to talk more to you about how to make it more intuitive - would you be able to email us at help@bookclubs.com?
  • Bookclubs app

I find it easy to maneuver and for the most part it is very user friendly. My only complaint is that is does not allow you to agree on a choice from one club to another. Meaning it is not is easy to second a book suggestion in the same group as another person within that group as your are reviewing their choices.

You should be able to have a drop down menu to agree that you also want to read that book or have read that book instread of having to search it yourself and then wait for it to eventually pair it with the other persons suggestion. I also find the orange color scheme very drab and boring. It should be more vibrant or at least change with the seasons.

But as I mentioned, I do find it rather user friendly and the book selection is vast!! I also the love that it provides some tips and insights as well as warnings for spoiler alerts when someone is giving a partial review. 🥰.

Thanks for your feedback! Unfortunately I'm not quite following your suggestion about sharing book recommendations across clubs - would you be able to reach us at help@bookclubs.com to explain your idea further?
  • I recommend looking elsewhere…

My best friend & I started a book club on this app & were fairly happy for a while. We were initially part of their affiliate program, until they randomly did away with it.

After some time, we started to notice more & more glitches in the app & website. We eventually decided that it was not the best platform for our club & the amount of people we had trying to participate. Things did not run smoothly and any feature worth having was locked under the premium membership.
We were approached by another platform that wanted us to host our book club through them & we initially said no. After thinking about it & realizing we weren’t happy with BookClubs, we finally made the jump over. My partner was nice enough to let BookClubs know we were making the switch & she was met with some weirdness, but overall things went smoothly.

After about a month (where we were still using BookClubs some), we logged in to notice that our club had been completely removed from the site. No warning or anything. The whole experience left a bad taste in our mouth and we feel like people should be warned before getting involved with BookClubs.

We’re so sorry you had a bad experience. It sounds like there has been some miscommunication. Our founder has reached out to you directly by email.
  • The best book club app ever!

We have tried many ways to electronically organize our book club over the 18 years it’s been in existence. When my friend discovered this app, our group has been the strongest ever. We remain private so no one can join without a link from the admin. Polls are easy to create and meetings are super simple. There is even a feature where members can make suggestions for new books to read.

  • Thank you!

Thank you for guided reading discussions on many different books! Helps to get the creative thinking flowing! Would rate higher but cannot due to the star limits and the fact that I’m not on the Bookclubs Team helping to add more guided reading questions 😀 Thank you again for helping people that “don’t know where to start” when they want to start and/or join a bookclub. Keep being awesome because you so are!

  • Best app for a book club!

I am in multiple book clubs and one of our clubs used an app, I thought it was novel and a great idea and the best thing ever for gathering people and planning ahead and avoiding all the annoying “planning” group texts. So I decided to get my other book club to use an app too- that’s when discovered this Bookckubs app! It’s sooooo much better than the other one I thought was great! This one is the best especially if your club members do not all have iPhones! It’s an all-inclusive easy to navigate app that helps take all of the management out of a book club. This app is the tops!

  • Bookclubs App Connects Communities

During the pandemic, my beloved book club of several years stopped meeting. In an effort to still keep actively reading, I stumbled across the Bookclubs App. I was pleased to find out I could join. more tha one club at a time! So, in an effort to broaden my horizons, I joined a club out on the west coast, thousands of miles from where I live (on the east coast.)
So now I am in 2 wonderful bookclubs-One local & one far away! It's fun to see how different regions discuss books! The difference is slight, but still present. I enjoy them both and for different reasons!

  • Like the app but it needs so improvements

When I change a book from “want to read” to “currently reading” to “read,” the app should remove the previous status automatically. A book shouldn’t be two statuses at once. I have to manually remove the old status. Also, the button doesn’t look like something you would select to change the status. A combo box with a drop-down menu would work better.

Thanks for the feedback! We are working on a redesign of our app and will keep your comments in mind as we work to improve our user interface.
  • Great for book clubs

We have just started using this app and it’s been so great for our group. The free version gives you the ability to manage everything you could want for your group - polls for meeting times, polls that connect directly with the TBR list so that you can easily create book lists for each month. Each member can leave their own rating and review for each book read. The import book list section is really easy to use online so that you can keep track of each book your group has read. I particularly love that most of the books included with book clubs comes with a discussion guide!!!! No more searching the internet each month for book questions. It’s made everything we do so much easier - I love it.
