Leave a Review My Fountain Pens & Inks
Not a bad start…
This is not a bad start for an app like this. It obviously could use a fair bit of improvement but I think it’s got the right idea. Sadly it’s very slow to start the first time but once past that it’s got the fields I would expect for tracking fountain pens and ink. That said, unless you go through the trouble of downloading the pen database mentioned in the settings the drop down menus are very limited. I feel that there are a number of improvements that could be made to make data entry easier. This isn’t a pretty app or UI but I don’t feel that’s a problem due to what this app does. The UI is functional and usable at least. The export/import option is a nice touch.Show lessNice little app
The app is not overly drawn out. Instead, there are no splash screens except for a split second of a fountain pen nib but then it goes straight to the app where you can fill out all the information necessary.
My biggest complaints are lack of pen choices. I have the IM Vibrant Rings pen and it's not even in the list. It's been out for 2 years so I know the developer has had some time to update the app since then, but I digress.
Next, information on each category would be nice. This is my first real fountain pen since a cheap plastic one I bought many years ago so I don't really know what some of the categories mean. Looking them up individually on Google was a partial help but some of the categories were just a "wing it" sort of vibe. Fill out what you MIGHT think it means.
And yes, the very dull appearance of the app is not very appealing. But, where the app shines is the inks information section. I just bought 4 bottles of Diamine ink for my new Parker IM and can't wait to use them. Looking up all the colors is top notch. Not over the top info but just what you need including the strip of color to see how it might look on paper.
All in all, this is a decent little app that will allow me to begin my collection of fountain pens, starting with my Parker IM. Next on my radar is a Waterman or maybe a Scriveiner, which is the one I truly wanted in the first place but couldn't find a retailer here in Thailand.Show lessI want to like it
When you scroll through the example photos for this app, it doesn’t show you how large and obnoxious the advertisements are. Swipe over to the “Ink Menu” picture and you will see the top half of the picture is blank. On the Pen Menu, that is where the advertisement is. You can turn off Google advertisements so it’s at least not a blinking-blaring flash of nonsense, but after that you get to look at Pelican, Sailor, and AliExpress ads. There has to be a purchase price or a subscription model to dump the ads. The ads are why I’m not keeping the app.
If/when that gets fixed, I’d love to see a field for pen weight. That’s an important variable for a lot of people.Show less
