  • No Wi-Fi

You pay for a product and don’t get what you paid for!!! The unit is not recognized?!?!?
WHAT!!! They sold a product they don’t recognize? I’ll go with a different brand next time.👍
  • Useless

Not only is the app pretty much useless the whole wireless hardware is a waste of money.
The scheduler makes no sense and there is no really functionality of this product.
We should be able to tell how much water temp is in real time. We should be able to easily switch the water heater off completely when not needed via the scheduler, we should know how many hours the water heater has been running a month, and I am sure there are many other things it could do.

I don’t expect this to ever change especially when you just had a real update which didn’t change anything with my water heater.
  • Simply doesn’t work

It rarely, if ever, works. There are about 100 ways that this app could be improved, but the #1 improvement would be to have it at least work to provide the current hot water availability most of the time instead of almost never.
  • iCOMM App

So far I agree with other reviewers, I find this app totally worthless. I scan the QR codes, says they are found, then tells me they have no record of them. Totally unacceptable
  • Pointless application

We switched over to a heat pump and only had the option for an AO Smith. It was essential that we have remote access. We had the iCOMM remote module installed so that we can set vacation mode remotely. The remote module sends data fine and stays connected.
However, the app consistently “disconnects” after a couple of days and the only way to reconnect is to reset the module on the heat pump and go through setup again.
This makes having a remote application pointless.
  • App doesn’t work right

QR codes were not recognized by the app. Tried to manually enter them, and still wouldn’t accept them.
Finally called A.O. Smith. Registered the water heater with customer service, and the two of us figured out how to connect the water heater to the WiFi.
Working now, but for an $860 water heater it should have worked from the get-go.
  • Pretty useless if you’re interested in monitoring your energy usage

The app tells lifetime use but won’t tell the day it was installed - it’s on you to remember.

The app shows a graph for the last four weeks’ usage but won’t tell the total, you can only see the usage per day.

The data you see is vague and lacks context, so it’s almost useless.
  • Very poor quality App, wish I’d bought a Rheem Product instead

It seems that Ao smith doesn’t understand that in 2024, consumers expect companies to invest in quality apps to control and integrate with devices and smartphones. This Icomm app is very poor quality, and really needs some time/budget invested into it. It would likely increase unit sales in the long run. When I called tech support the person I spoke to was very unhelpful and just sounded like they were reading a script back to me. Very annoying experience…
  • Please fix the connectivity issues

With constant remote monitoring and helpful tools designed just for professionals, the A. O. Smith Mobile App features the iCOMM™ connectivity platform, the latest technology for remote water heater management.

Well, the opening marketing sounds great. But like others have said the network outages and latency on the data when you try and access the features is terrible. Constantly asking to sign in, our network is down and so on.

Its a shame as the actual heaters are really excellent. Developer and infrastructure team get low marks.
  • Network

Their network is never working so this feature is worthless. Kinda like this water heater from AO Smith
