  • App is working well now

Got my heat pump water heater in August 2023. Initially the app didn’t work well. Looks like it was revised about October and has worked very well since then. It also has new features that are helpful.
  • The App is Garbage

Did you hire chimpanzees to write this app? It’s useless. Every time I try to adjust the water temperature through the App, it crashes.
  • EXTREMELY Unreliable

Got my heat pump water heater in August 2023. Got it online and the app worked well for a few weeks and then didn’t recognize my heater anymore. Got it back up with help from tech support but it was soon down again. It just doesn’t work much of the time. I like using it, although what it does for you is rather simple. However, I’ve given up on it and encourage AO Smith to dump it and develop a new app with more reliability and function.
  • Connection issues on THEIR end!

I paid A LOT of money for my new water heater because I wanted to be able to control it from my phone. It was great the first few weeks then the app no longer works. I’ll be taking this up with Lowe’s where I purchased it as well. Fix your app!!!
  • Off line most of the time

The infrastructure is offline more times than not. I frequently get a message, “ your network connection works, but we are experiencing a temporary outage on our end.
Our team is currently working to resolve this issue, so please try again later. “ if I should be depending on alerts, why should I get this message?
The truth is everyone is rating this app poorly and AOS still does nothing to improve it. We’ve bought our heater, they have their profits just to wait for the next unsuspecting customer who buys a heater not knowing how the app until it is too late. I think a class act law suit is in order.
  • App is always down

This app was great when I first got it. Then the “system is experiencing an outage and we are working on it” for WEEKS! If I told my boss I’m working on it and there was no results for weeks I would be out of a job!
  • Why bother rating this app

Ok let’s go with the assumption that I did everything through the app for access and registration and all worked perfectly. That’s the easy part. I use the app to control settings for my short term rental house. My issue is the amount of times the AO Smith network is down. The frequent message of “you are connected but our network is down” is beyond frustrating. The inability to access and change the mode when guest are about to arrive is unacceptable. If this was a once in a while problem I could live with it. The problem is their network is down more than it’s up. Useless app and the fact that you see the same reviews for well over 2 years and nothing has changed says it all. AO Smith doesn’t give a rip about you once you plunk down your money.
  • App is sorely lacking any real functionality

I really expected more from this since the water heater was expensive. I expected a real scheduler. It’s pretty confusing. All I want it to do it shut off between 1am and 7am, then run the rest of the time. I thought it would show the exact temperature of the water in the tank at all times, it does not. It just shows the temperature you applied. I wish the app would show in real time anything the electronics need to run the water heater. Temps, pressures, power, etc. A manual timer attached makes more sense then a water heater with this expensive function built in. If I had it to do again, I would not buy this.

Please add a real scheduler, add the features everyone here is asking for. All your reviews show you aren’t listening to the customer.

    Why do you not care?
  • Trash

This has the opportunity to be a great thing. Instead they made it unusable trash. Thanks for nothing.
  • Need more features

I use this app with my new hot water heater. It works fine, but doesn’t do much.

It allows me to set the target temp of the tank. It doesn’t allow me to see what the actual temperature is.

It allows me to set a schedule of one hour blocks that the tank will be “topped off” with hot water. I don’t even understand what this means. I wish I could just set the temperature, Mon 7:00am 140°, Wed 9:00am 120°…
There is a graphic with “Hot Water Availability “ but it is always red, even during not-scheduled times. Again, I’m not sure what “availability” is.

The time of use sounds cool, but my electric plan doesn’t include a varying rate.

It doesn’t allow me to see the leak sensor or close/open the supply valve. maybe it alerts me when flooded? IDK, it doesn’t say.

I doesn’t even show all the information available on the front of the heater such as heating element is active.

It would be cool if it linked to Apple Home or worked with Smartthings.
