  • Basic

The app is very basic. Not many frills. Still have yet to see energy usage. I was able to get it connected. I just had to turn off the Wi-Fi and turn it back on.
  • Use AO Smith app

I bought an AO Smith water heater and didn’t know which app to use, so I tried both. They are essentially identical, but the iCOMM app couldn’t successfully connect to the water heater but the AO Smith app could.
  • Very impressive—in a bad way

In short, can’t set it up and tech support appears to be unable to do anything.

App reports that my water heater serial number “has already been set up by an administrator” and to “request access to view details”. Doing so supposedly sends an email to the administrator (whoever that may be). If I’m “approved”(!!! hey, I’m just the owner. Guess I’m chopped liver) I’ll get an email back. Of course I never get an email back. But it says I can skip this step and reset the water heater to factory settings. Encouraging, but alas there appears to be no way to actually do that.

I must say I am very impressed—in a very negative way.
  • Can you please build a normal schedule

Why can you not give us a simple schedule to have the water heater off between certain hours.

What you have makes absolutely no sense.
  • App works well with HPTS-80 Voltex Hybrid Heat Pump

This App works great with the heater I mention in the title. The App is by no means great, but it let's me enter a schedule or use Time of Use/Day electric plan information to let it optimize the cost.

The rate plan can be entered manually or automatically (depends on your utility) and you can set to optimize water recovery or cost with a 3 point slider scale, letting the heater run more overnight when my rates are low.

I had no issues setting up account, pairing with water heater, etc. Make sure it is in range of your wifi router. You connect directly to it with phone wifi initially to send it your router's connection info (ssid and password) then it will connect to your home network so you can access it with your app.

The App could have more features, like current temp, etc. However, it does job of showing how much hot water you have (3 segments that are red or blue, if all 3 are red it is hot, all 3 are blue it is probably off, etc, not much granularity but who cares). You can adjust temp and running mode too (hybrid resistance /heat pump, heat pump only, resistance only or vacation). Resistance heating is most expensive but fastest and heat pump is cheapest but slowest. With a heat pump water heater you should probably choose heat pump only or hybrid to minimize energy usage except in special situations.

Having these features is important for a heat pump unit, I would probably avoid for anything else.
  • Doesn’t recognize serial number

I’ve scanned and manually typed in serial number consistently says it’s invalid. Can’t use the app.
  • Bluetooth broken

Won’t connect to the water heater’s Bluetooth. The phone sees it in Bluetooth devices, but this app will not connect. Beyond useless.
  • App

Still crap. Wont recognize my new hot water heater QR code or manually enter the serial number. Looks like they don't really care about this app or they would've tried to fix it by now
  • App works but the scheduler makes no sense

Could you please make a schedule option so I can turn off the water heater between certain hours. What you have makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Also why can’t the app have more features? Would be nice to know what the water temp is at that moment.

Please someone do something. This thing was very expensive.

    Thank you
  • Just ok

I spent way to much extra on my new hot water heater specifically for the WiFi capability. I go to download the app and surprised by how bad the app is. I was able to set mine up by manually putting the serial number in but it wouldn’t read the QR code. I’m giving 3 stars because the company can do so much better. I also don't like the small amount of functions on the app. I was excited for the schedule part until I realized it’s just to top off hot water. It should have a schedule to turn the water heater off daily like at night when not in use. I don’t like the idea of letting the power company chose when to turn it on and off. Hopefully they will update and take peoples suggestions.
