Everything costs

Would be nice if you buy the book to have access to the app, rather then shelling out even more money.

Response from developer

You do get access to the app at no cost - you get basic outlining functionality. To give the entire app away at no cost would mean we can't pay the people who develop and maintain the app and that's not right. The cost is reasonable and helps the team stay in business and deliver content at no cost to our community every week via our website www.savethecat.com

Deleted HOURS of Work!

My initial impression of the app was favorable ... until I returned to my current project to continue working through its beats. Then I realized that my most previous effort — a solid couple of hours of work — was simply gone. Poof! Thin air, folks. Will be demanding a refund and seeking an alternative app. Be careful with this one!

Mr. iPodder, Please contact me at tech@blakesnyder.com. I'm happy to help figure out what could have happened. Haven't had reports of anything like that happening to anyone else.

Misleading

I had an older version of Save the Cat on my iPad. I thought I would take the plunge and get the full version for a not cheap £28. The app was buggy and kept crashing and was looking dated. I then saw there is a new version on the App Store so downloaded that, only to again be asked for £20 to upgrade. Why wasn’t the old version of the app linked? Do I really need to pay again?

hi hi - please send an email to customerservice@blakesnyder.com - we will help.

Great Improvement Over Previous Version

I like the decisions made in this new version of the software. I’ve been using it for a few days now and I already find it to be a great improvement over the previous version. I definitely recommend it for anyone who appreciates Blake Snyder’s approach to screenwriting.

Great tool but buggy software

I have the desktop version meaning I can sync and work on the mobile version with full access on those projects which is great!

I recommend getting the desktop version and then doing this to get the best of both worlds.

The layout for the mobile version is more asthetically pleasing than the desktop version which looks like something form windows 95.

Never the less, it’s nice to be able to work on the beats, boards etc and sync with final draft.

The issue is the software is buggy on both the desktop and mobile version.

I find that I have to rewrite a whole board due to the app crashing, or in some cases just not saving my work.

Another issue with the board in the mobile version is that it’s not actually a board! Instead the board in on the side with all the detail on the other side taking up most of the space.

Would be a better user experience all round if it was and actual board that you could look at fully. Pinch in and out to zoom in and out etc and then you can click and enter that particular board and add all the details.

Definitely feels like they missed a trick here. The idea of a board is a tactil experience, just like on a tablet.

Hopefully this gets fixed, otherwise, great app for what it does.

Issues for Apple computer users

Love the book!!! And wish I had the book before I finished the first draft of my book. So I purchased the Save the Cat desktop software a few months ago for my Mac. Then the app started to get glitchy & unresponsive. And tech support wasn’t able to resolve my issue. Downloaded the app on my iPad thinking it might work better & tried to sync my desktop project to my tablet via the app but but kept running into issues. 🙁

Hi ninjagirl808, I'm trying to remember what issues you ran into. Did you have an older version of macOS? If so, I was able to set up a virtual machine and compile STC for the older versions of macOS which seemed to solve some of the problems other customers were having on older versions. This was fairly recently so not sure if you had a chance to try it or not. https://stccompany.azurewebsites.net/MacDownload.aspx Try the Mojave and before option.

Improved app and promo code to migrate from older version

The app features some improvements, it is better structured and more intuitive.
I contacted the customer service and they provided me a promo code to migrate over to the essential version at no additional cost.
They even helped me with the technicalities of the process.
Highly satisfied.

You need to manually save like a desktop 15 years ago

I would have given this app a 5 star review after about 2 weeks of use, happy to be using the paid version of the app.

Every time I’ve ever had my iPad run out of juice, I go plug it in and open it back up and everything is exactly where it was when the iPad ran out of battery.

But this app... I just wrote 2 whole scenes when my iPad died on me. Go get it plugged in and open it back up... and the app started back at the beginning. I selected my project and everything I’d worked on was gone. Two whole scenes. It doesn’t back up like Google Docs, you have to keep interrupting yourself to remember to hit save like I’m typing in WordPerfect on my mom’s IBM back in the day, apparently.

Great but please add Scrivner Export

The new version is much better and love the export options. Many people use Scrivner for novels though. If you can export to it and utilize the cards in Scrivner for the scenes, it would be amazing.

App does download on my Mac

The app is NOT available on my iMac. How is supposed to connect to my main computer? I don’t mind using my iPhone or iPad occasionally, on the run, but I use my Mac everyday. I’m not going to pay twice.

Response from developer

The desktop version is available for purchase from our website. There is no need to pay twice as the app is included at no additional cost with the desktop subscription.
