Great app for all instrument learners

I play guitar but quite frankly I’m a bit lazy, so this app can help me keep track of what and when I practice. It can also underline opportunities to get better and offer exercises. Definitely recommend for anyone who’s a self-learner!

Response from developer

Dear JazzGuitar2go. Thank you so much for a great review. We are glad to see that the app is helping keep track of your practices. We are working hard to offer personalized exercise recommendations as well. Appreciate the love and support.

Cant use the app

After creating my account the app just goes to an infinite loading screen after I clicked on the practice logger, and now it just does that whenever I open the app so I’d love to leave a better review when I can actually use it lol

Response from developer

Thank you so much for you patience Ben. We tested the app thoroughly and are not able to reproduce this on our side. Can we kindly request you to try again or delete the app and reinstall (Hypothesis is that the localstorage might have a data version conflict. This may have occurred when the app might be installing exactly at the same time when the cloud version upgrade might be running at our end. Not sure). Please let us know by upgrading the review or writing to support@kena.ai. Thanks a lot for your patience and your patronage. Regards, Kena Support Team

Clean and effective. Great music practice app.

Have been practicing music for about 5 years. Used multiple apps for practice timer but Kena seems to have figured out the most efficient way to build practice routines. Just discovered the app couple of days ago. I can create different routines for different days with segments that helps build skills. Also, love the tabbed out arpeggios and the feedback feature in the analysis section. Definitely helpful even for beginners. Wait, all this is free !! Wow.

Thank you for an amazing review Peter. We are excited to hear that our practice routine templates are making a difference in your practice regiment. Also great to hear that the guitar tabs in arpeggios are helping. Note that you can configure the starting string and also the fret distance to make the arpeggios easier or harder to play. We have 57K arppegiated patterns across all keys and chord quality. Thank you so much for your support and patronage. Yes, we are a FREE platform and we are invested in helping musicians get better :) Regards, Kena Support Team

Amazing app!

I’ve been using the app for a week now and it’s helped me SO much. Through the app you can not only keep time of how much you are practicing, but segment your time and see how much you practice on individual pieces and technique. They have music theory, curated lessons, and music that you can look through. I’ve been able to keep track of everything so much better and I’m positive that this will help me in the long run. I recommend this app to any musician who has trouble keeping track of their practice, or just anyone in general.

Definitely will help me improve

Pretty cool app.I’m using it to try and teach myself piano. I can track my practice time and submit recordings. It’s motivating to see my rhythm and intonation scores improve as I get better. They have a lot of lessons and Arpeggios to use.

Huh?

First off, the other review is obviously fake/submitted by the developer.

Other than that... what does this app actually do? Doesn’t make sense. Near as I can figure, someone is trying to collect snippets of music to train an AI. But why? Are they trying to avoid copyright issues or something (obviously there are much easier ways to collect bits of music)?

Also, it’s buggy. Crashed several times. And if you read the terms of service, there’s no way to exit that screen without restarting the app.

I don’t get it.

Response from developer

Hi Anna, We are really sorry to hear that the app is crashing for you. We apologize for the inconvenience. We would like to fix the problem for you if you are willing to write to support@kena.ai. We do get crash analytics and we work hard to simulate every possible scenario and fix on a daily basis. The good news is that we have remote fixes without having to do new builds into the AppStore. We are in our first (beta) version and we are humbly getting through all the chinks. - [What does the app do] At the bare minimum the app does the following: 1) Help you analyze your music as feedback for your practice sessions for rhythm and articulation. We can provide these diagnostics for any impro melody across 12 instruments for any genre. 2) For Piano, we auto transcribe your music into scoresheet. 3) Gives you unlimited private storage to journal your practice sessions. (No you don't have to publish anything to the public library) 4) Publish to the public library so that others can learn from your musical style and renditions. 5) Share your music with a public URL for people outside the platform who can enjoy your renditions. - [About the two reviews] We don't write our own reviews. Both reviews are organic. One of the reviews is from a contributor to the platform as we can recognize the handle and you can see submissions from the reviewer in our library as well. So there seems to be an extensive usage prior to this review. We are not sure of the other reviewer but happy to track down and get you connected to both of them if you are willing to exchange notes (Since it's only two reviews as we can see) - [Concerns on AI] AI systems, especially music require a large amount of data (In excess of 200hours of music per instrument sometimes even per genre and sub-genre). Snippets usually are not helpful here. Our AI systems are trained on public domain and proprietary datasets and also uses novel research methods that use statistical footprints of music from the acoustic domain (sound) without having to spend on large datasets. In simple terms, we can work on non-music (no melody) datasets for training. For example all keys and all octaves from most instruments. This is easy to obtain. We also have inhouse musicians who contribute the majority of the bias (me included). The musical snippets (just like any other music company out there) helps in establishing bias to offer better music search and discovery back to the user when we get to such large data-set scales at a later time. Its a network effect to serve you better. The product is free and we don't monetize. We have strict regulations in place with governance advised by our legal counsel and happy to connect you to our team. We also undergo audits. - We would be happy to get on a call and walk you through the product and our roadmap and also our AI systems on how we use the data. We would love to personally collect specific feedback from you as a musician and happy to build features for your specific pain points. - We are a startup with honest intentions to help musicians across the globe and willing to walk the extra mile to take care of musicians (Whether they are on our platform or not). Looking forward to further alleviate your concerns over email or call. - Your feedback is really valuable and thank you so much for taking your time voicing your concerns. We hear you and will work harder. Thanks again, Preetham Vishwanatha CEO, Founder, Kena.ai - (You can also write to me personally at preetham@kena.ai and I will see to it that your concerns are prioritized in the best of our capacity.)

Solid start, cool tech

Uploaded 2 recordings and got actionable feedback from the technology. Pitch clarity in particular was cool to see. I had some bugs and reached out—the developers are very quick to respond and clearly care about making a helpful product. That gives me great confidence in them. Can’t wait for future releases!
