I thought this app was amazing…
…it seemed to find a huge variety of birds on my short walk. Suspiciously so.
I tested it by going on to the RSPB website and playing individual bird songs. An epic fail I’m afraid with only a few easy ones correct and most wrong.
No option but to delete this app now I’m afraid - even free apps have to work!

Useless .. complete con
The moment I click to listen - even in total silence it immediately says Goldfinch 99% certain !
Then with no bird sounds around it listed Woodpeckers and loads of Herring Gulls
I know a few birds but none of the above were correct . It didn’t even recognise a swarm of noisy Sparrows that landed in our bushes
Try the free Merlin ID app .. choose your actual location in settings .. perfect - just remember to delete all the recordings if you are short of space

Birds
I think the app needs to be updated with bird noises at night by the sea. I don’t think it is recognising what i hear at night. I put it on and it states black bird but i don’t think so. It needs to update sounds of potential eegrits, oyster catchers, cormorants etc.
A little disappointed
I thought this was a great app to pick up bird songs, but it seems to keep saying there are Herring Gulls and I know it’s not as I can see and hear the buzzards above me. It ID’d a pair of Peregrine Falcon as Blackbirds or Tawny Owls? Wish it didn’t scroll so fast or there is a way you can scroll back to see what the other birds it’s picked up.

Doesn’t seem to know that many birds
This app picks up common garden birds, but sometimes when I can see a bird but want to know what kind of bird it is by the song, it tells me Robin or Blackbird. Sometimes it doesn’t seem to hear what I can hear, e.g. an owl or even seagulls. If it isn’t sure, it says Herring Gull. Disappointing.
Clever
It can’t be easy to do what it does but for the most part I think it does a good job at matching the song to the birds I know frequent my garden. The only mistake it does make is a frequent identification of a HerringGull which I know can’t be right. Fun to watch.
Herring Gull!
Tried this app in my local woods and to be perfectly honest it was very poor.
Herring Gull and Blackbird where the favourite species that appeared and even my limited knowledge of bird song is such that I am aware that Herring Gulls do not frequent woods and forest.
I already recognise many common bird songs including the Blackbird which is easily recognised but this app seemed to consider Robin song and others as the song of the Blackbird!
Quite a disappointing app.

Not Every Noise Is A Blackbird
Mine only picks up blackbirds even when there’s no blackbirds or even birds. If it catches me speaking then I’m identified as a Great Spotted Woodpecker rather than a Human Female. You’d think I’d have noticed being a Woodpecker but apparently I needed an app to fill in the blanks. I’m now much happier living as a Woodpecker and I wish I had known earlier although the headaches are a bit of a problem.
Perfect app if you need to identify blackbirds or discover you aren’t who you thought you were but otherwise completely terrible.

Not chuffed
I was right under trees in a Norfolk avenue where two chaffinches were singing loudly with no other birds about but it did not recognise them. Tried again under another loud chaffinch but the app noted everything but the right call. What has it got against chaffinches? Two barn owls mid morning yesterday when all I could hear were wood pigeons! Very disappointing.

Love it
Surprisingly great app. I stumbled across it when I searched for a bird song identifier. Read a review and compared it with other apps. This one does exactly what I want although I agree with the review I read and the developers response that a history and playback would make it even better.
