Reviews of Punnett Helper

  • Exactly what I wanted!

I raise rabbits for show and I am an absolute nerd when it comes to all things genetics, regardless of species. I’m no newbie to Punnett squares, I first got into them when I was breeding betta fish for my science fair project, but for my rabbits I got tired of trying to calculate in my head or, if I wanted to go further, to write a massive square on a sheet of paper in order to know the chances for certain colors.

This app was exactly what I was wanting: a Punnett square generator I can keep in my back pocket, calculated percentages for the potential genes, and an easy to use app without the main focus being on special gene related stuff and how they work. This app is simple and to the point, exactly what I wanted!
  • Invalid every time!

I tried putting in aachch x aaamam

aa is non agouti & chch is siamese
aa is non agouti & amam is mink.

It says invalid and I don’t get it! I followed the directions and worthless.
  • Unclear instructions rendering it useless

The instructions do not provide proper guidelines. I have tried every combo I could think might make this work but it’s just garbage... worthless overall. I’m better off googling how to make a Punnett square and making it my own with pen and paper. They’re really quite simple

    Developer Response

Thank you for your feedback. I apologize for the confusion with the instructions. Each field represents the genotype for a parent. The user is supposed to enter the genotype for each parent in each field (ex: 'AabbCc' in one field and 'aaBbcc' in the other field. The intent was to ensure the user enters the same number of traits for each parent, and also to make sure the user enters the same number traits for both parents. For example, entering 'AaBb' for one parent and 'aabb' for the other is acceptable (two traits for each). And something like 'Aa' for one parent and 'AaBb' for the other parent would not be acceptable (two traits for parent one and only one trait for for parent two). The intent was also to ensure that users did not enter special characters for alleles (ex: ?, !, %, etc...). Although it would still technically work, I believed it wouldn't be the best representation for the cross. I appreciate you feedback, and I will include better instructions in the next update. If you have any more questions or concerns, please reach out. You can email for support through the app using the 'Support' button, or you can email punnetthelper@gmail.com. Thank you, and I apologize again for the inconvenience.
