Very difficult to cancel subscription

Nice app but there’s not any directions on the routes. It’s also very difficult to cancel your automatically renewed subscription, so beware

Response from developer

Hi - thanks for the feedback. The routes use satellite GPS that shows you (with a dot and arrow) exactly where you are on the route as you walk around and it also shows you what direction you are pointing. So, there is not any need for written directions and it's very easy to follow the routes. The subscription uses apple's standard subscription method and you can easily cancel in your phone's Subscription settings. Email us on wiltshire@localwalks.co.uk and we will help you out if you cannot find the settings. Thanks.

Disappointed

I live in the south of Wiltshire. I already know all the walks within an hour if me and there are few further away ones long enough to warrant a long drive. I will cancel my subscription if I can work out how to do fo

Response from developer

Hi Suzie, Sorry that you havn't found any new walks near you. We launched with 150 routes around the county, but that's only the start. We aim to get to 300+ routes over time so hopefully if you check back later you will find some more routes near you. If you cannot find the subscription cancel button, email us on hello@localwalks.co.uk and we'll help you out.

Great idea

Love this app! I think it would be great to have an option to check off a walk from the app once done

Response from developer

Thanks Steph! We're glad you like the app! Much more to come :) We are thinking about adding the 'walk done' checklist in a future update, but our only problem is if you reinstall your app or change devices it will lose all of your progress. Discussions are ongoing though as it would be a nice feature!

Good idea but not for me

Limited ability to scroll around the map and basic mapping function means I won’t be using this. Would rather use OS maps with much richer information.

Won’t renew after free trial

Response from developer

Hi Mark. Thanks for your feedback and we totally understand your view. We believe that OS maps serve a different purpose to our app in that they are detailed maps that help people to plan a route anywhere on the public footpath network. The extra detail and context provided by an OS map is important for this, and this is a brilliant tool for more experienced walkers and explorers. Our app however is aimed at the more casual walker and it is about presenting 150 curated circular walking routes that we have researched around Wiltshire and put together in a very simple to follow manner. You simply choose one of our walks, tap to load the starting car park into your apple maps directions, drive to the start of the walk and then follow the GPS arrow around the route. Our app is designed to be 'turn up and go' for people who maybe havn't got the time to properly plan a route, or perhaps do not want to risk the unknown side of following a public right of way blindly when they have their young family walking with them. As I said though, for some people the OS maps are a better tool for planning walks, and that is everyone's choice after trying our free trial.

First walk done- very impressed

We tried the app today and I’m pleased to say that worked well, both the navigation to the walk and the walk itself

We will be using it again

Thanks

Excellent, we're glad you are enjoying the app :)

Needs to improve quickly

Just signed up for the months free trial and won’t be renewing.

I actually tried this on my iPad first so I could get a sense of the app.

When I clicked on the link for ‘walk information’ it took me to Spain! I did restart and faff about and eventually it did use my home location.

When you look at the map of the walk it is quite basic. You can zoom out and scroll to see the walk, but there are no place names of where the walk is starting from, and I would have found it helpful to see the walk in its entirety instead of needing to zoom out AND scroll. For me, I would have preferred seeing the whole walk with a significant place marker that gave me a sense of where I was walking.

Not everywhere has good internet connection and I would also have found it helpful to save a walk to my device and then access it while walking.

I may check back, but I am afraid the app will be deleted.

Response from developer

Hi David. Thanks for your feedback and apologies for the problems you had. The app is not designed to run on an iPad, so this might explain some of your issues (especially with Spain!). We will change the next update so it doesn't allow iPads to download it. The app works totally offline so you do not need any internet connection at all when you are doing the walks - the route maps are stored in the app itself and it uses the satellite GPS to navigate. Finally, the start point is always a parking spot as specified on the app and you can get directly to that parking spot by clicking the directions button (it links into your phone's map/sat nav). Hope that helps and we hope you can revisit the app on an iPhone or Android device to see if it functions properly for you.

Superb app!

Really lovely clean design and so many walks near me. Really looking forward to exploring all of these walks
