Worst mobile app ever conceived

This app looks and behaves like it was written by somebody trying to teach themselves how to write a mobile app without any guidance on proper mobile app development whatsoever. A simple sort of magazine issue by date doesn’t work leaving you hunting for the magazine you just downloaded. Filtering by magazine type uses check boxes on the opposite side of the screen from the magazine type. Unless you draw a line with your finger or count rows you’ll struggle on selecting the right box. The magazine thumbnails are vertically squashed out of proportion. Old issues are no longer available after a certain date. Anemic help information. No payment history or payments through the app. As a result, magazine issues can’t be read after making payment. Takes a couple of days for that to resolve. Just a weird, clunky, poorly “designed” (I use that term loosely) really, really bad product. Please dump this abomination and hire a pro or go back the old reader that Model Railroader also uses. But don’t take my word for it. Look at all the other 1 star reviews!

No problems with iOS version on iPad

I'm using the most recent version on my iPad Air without any problems. I'm viewing the PDF file. I'll provide an update if I run into any bugs. The magazine itself, Railroad Model Craftsman, is excellent as usual.

Low-res magazine, barely usable

The PDFs of RMC are pixelated, show up about 1/4 screen size on my iPad, and are very low quality. When I zoom in to full screen, I can barely read the text.

Searching for an issue is completely broken. The interface displays the issues in chronological order so I have to scroll through every single one to get to the most recent, then scroll back through all of them to view the most recent once I downloaded it.

I really like RMC and want to support it, but seriously this app is awful.

PDF for your phone only

Great concept in having your previous issues accessible however the inability to download or even print pages from the pdf makes this rather useless. I paid for the mag. So I really need to hold onto 20 years of them to find that one special article instead of being able to find and print it out when I need it?

The new version is terrible

As mentioned by many others, this version is a giant step backward. On a phone the fonts are readable, but on a tablet the whole interface is gigantic, plus your old library isn’t there.

PDF rendering on the tablet is a joke with font size again being a problem. Why was the old version replaced? Sheesh…

Broken

There is absolutely nothing positive about this new app whatsoever. The PDF does not work as well as the old app, and more importantly, all of my old issues have been lost as I used to have back and paid for December 2011 and now I only have back to 2018. Formatting is very poor, the PDF, which is the main reason to have the app and be able to read the magazine is clunky and does not work well. Please go back to your old format. This new one really stinks.

Getting better

New version is an improvement over the previous one. The layout is now magazine format, and is apparently a pdf rendered either online (using the pdf rendering of the system browser, not in the browser) or by downloading to the device and using a local rending app - not sure which one, would be nice if I could use Sidebooks which does a very nice job with pdf magazines. On my iPad it comes up in smaller than full screen, and the trick to get and expanded view is not obvious, nir is reducing again.

Several issues with some things which I passes on to customer service.

Over all, getting there, but very obviously a beta version of a rewritten app.

Worse than previous version

Now fonts are gigantic on selection screen. Very difficult to navigate to latest RMC mag. I see now there is pdf rendering version of magazine. The whole point would be to have high resolution images but still low resolution. Pinch zooming non functional. Fire your developer. Clearly not tested. Does not meet most basic quality requirements. Why don’t you just look at Zinio for an example of a good reader?

Looks like it is not detecting that I am using an iPad, everything on launch page is huge.

Needs Fixing

I cannot access magazines downloaded during previous Beta trial and app now freezes and boots me out. Please fix.

Broken

App is completely unusable, and my subscriptions to your magazines are inaccessible. Completely unacceptable. Fix immediately.
