Description of The A.T. Guide

Since 2010, The A.T. Guide®, a.k.a. “The Awol Guide,” has been the guidebook of choice for hikes of any length on the Appalachian Trail. The book contains thousands of landmarks such as campsites, water sources, summits & gaps. The trail’s elevation profile is included & every landmark is aligned to the profile. Hikers using this guide know where they are on the trail, what views, streams & campsites are ahead & whether they’ll be hiking uphill or downhill to get there. The A.T. Guide answers all of your questions about how to get rides, where to stay, & where to get supplies. There are 95 maps of towns on or near the trail showing where to find these services & detailed listings for businesses. The A.T. Guide is the most innovative trail guidebook ever developed. Reviews of The A.T. Guide

  • UX is awful

I’m in the design space and I know UX/UI - this is about as bad as it gets on the App Store. UX means user experience - it’s not optimized for mobile which is All anyone would use it for. You to step your game up please invest 5-10k into your mobile app and make it run properly.
  • More bugs than NH in the summer

The good: Beautiful maps and tons of waypoint info on the trail and trail towns. Nice to be able to download PDF’s for offline use or print if you want a hard copy to take with you. The bad: constantly crashes, slow to respond to taps, when logging hikes many of the pages mileage points are not able to be marked or it marks a point higher on the page. The main reason I wanted to use the app was to log my section hikes. Without this function working you might as well use a PDF viewer rather than this app.
  • Just use a PDF reader

The guide is good. The app is terrible. Loses my spot over and over again. Consistently fails to get past the splash screen.
