March 9, 2024

For iPhone and Apple Watch: **Improved low jump recognition. 200-300% improvement of jump recognition in the 1 to 3-meter range. Beginners will now have their jumps recognized. You can now set the minimum jump height to just 1 meter. This means that Surfr will start recognizing your jumps already from 1 meter and up. You can also do this on your iPhone via Profile / Settings. To do so open the Surfr. app on your watch, go to Settings / Advanced and change this setting to your liking. For Apple Watch: **Modular display. A whole new main recording display, where you can determine yourself what you want to see during your session. Open the Surfr app on the watch, go to Settings / Change Layout and decide which information is relevant to you. **Downwinder support. Select your downwind destination and use Surfr for navigation and spot information while on the water. A world-first feature by the Surfr. App using the Surfr. Discover database. From now on, it’s possible to use Surfr on your Watch for a downwinder. Pick your destination and go! The new Downwinder feature will be your Google Maps on the water, navigating you to your destination while keeping you informed about the spots and places you're passing. ** On-board coaching. A first step towards on-board coaching where the watch will teach you how to jump higher. Onboard coaching will tell you on the water how fast you went on your last tack, both the maximum speed as well as the average speed. The colors, red-orange-green, will tell you if you are on track for higher jumps. Open the Surfr. app on your Apple watch, go to Settings and select Advanced. There you can enable on-board coaching. ** Switching display. Switch the main part of the display with a simple button press to get the information you want - when you need it. Just single press the action button (Ultra) or single press the crown + side button (non-Ultra watches) and the display switches. ** Pausing a session. You can now pause your session. Go for that lunch break and continue where you left off when back on the beach. ** Improved and extended button support. Use the buttons on your watch to start, pause, stop a session, and much more. We created a full touchless experience to make your life easier on the beach and in the water. The following button combinations are available by default: Non-Ultra watches *Single press crown + side button: Switch display *Double press crown + side button: Pause or Resume Ultra watches *Single press action button: Switch display *Double press action button: Chat *Double press Action button + side button: Pause or Resume *Double press Crown + side button: End & Save session We hope you like the update as much as we do, regards, The Surfr. Team Small improvements: * Issue with maximum height in Feet showing wrong * Calories now save to Apple Health * Issue with saving offline sessions that could give Error 1 is now resolved * Issue with some watches not showing the session time (time on water) is resolved

Big Update! ** GPS, GPX, Strava. We have completely revamped the way we handle GPS data. Going forward, you'll enjoy high-accuracy GPS data. Explore your GPS tracks and jumps in our new 3D maps integrated directly into the Surfr app. Check out your latest sessions and relive your session on a whole new level via the interactive 3D maps. Export your sessions to Strava with a single click or download them as GPX to share with any app of your choice. ** Live Chat (Apple Watch eSim): Chat live with your friends on the water via your watch. This revolutionary feature not only adds to the fun of your session but also enhances your safety. Lost your board? Just send a message to your friend! Kiteboarding is a solo sport, but with this feature it becomes even easier to share the stoke right on the water - when it happens. Enable the chat function in the settings (Surfr App on your watch / Settings). During your session, press the action button (Apple Watch Ultra) or crown+side button (non-Ultra watches) to start a voice message. We've also added a little offline/online indicator (red dot/green dot) so you always know if your watch is online, and you can send/receive messages. ** Improved Apple Health Integration: We are now sending your full GPS track to Apple Health, so all the relevant information will also be stored in Apple Health. Just make sure that we have the required permissions to do so. Go to your iPhone, Health App, Profile, Apps And Services, and enable all the permissions that Surfr asks for. **Offline Sessions (Apple Watch): Finally, it's here, after many requests! You can now save your session on your Apple Watch even if you don't have an internet connection. Say hello to that boat trip in Egypt with no internet connection, record sessions all week long, and upload them all when connected to the internet again. **Action Button Support (Apple Watch Ultra): Use the action button to start a session. You can even link the right activity type/discipline (twintip, hydrofoil, wing, etc.) to the action button. Use the action button + side button to stop a session. Use the action button while recording a session to speak with friends! ** Quick Finish: Press the Action Button + side button (Ultra) or Crown + side button (Non-ultra) to directly finish and save your session. No longer need to take the watch out of waterlock. ** Select Your Gear + Activity Type (Apple Watch): Before you hit the water, you can now easily select your gear and your activity type. This way, your friends will always know what you're doing and what gear you are using. This information will also be added to your session when it's saved. As always we are super stoked bringing some revolutionary (world-first) features to kiteboarding. We hope you like it, let us know your thoughts (Insta DM, support@thesurfr.app or a review right here in the App Store). Best regards, The Surfr Team

Reviews of The Surfr. App

  • Great app, great data, needs some improvements

I love the app, love the data it collects and love being able to watch the info on my watch while I’m kiting.

I don’t like that it doesn’t export my heart rate data to Strava.

    Developer Response

Hi Emilio! Thanks for your feedback! Seems like, besides the missing calories feature, you seem to enjoy our app. According to your description this doesn’t sound like a 1-star review. The heart rate data and calories are implemented in the next update which is coming shortly. Hopefully this makes you reconsider your thoughts about our app.
  • App should track HR data!

The app excels in tracking jumps and GPS data. However, I’ve noticed that while the app reads heart rate data, it doesn’t save it. This omission becomes apparent when sessions are saved and subsequently uploaded to platforms like Strava or Apple Health. The heart rate data seems to be discarded, resulting in inaccuracies like displaying 0 calories burned. Incorporating a feature to retain and transfer this heart rate data would greatly enhance the app’s functionality. Apart from this, the app performs admirably in other aspects.
