Completely overpriced
$70 a year! Are you kidding me. When it was at $40, that was barley acceptable. I’ve been using for a few years, it’s ok. When I originally purchased the app, it was the best thing on the market, but it’s still not great by any means. You got to work around some of it’s limitations to get the correct information in. The updates have been helpful, but the app is far from perfect. $70 is totally greedy. The app must have been developed by film tools.Developer Response
Thanks for sharing your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that you feel the recent price increase is unacceptable. The price changes in Q1 ‘24 were updated to reflect Crew Call’s new invoicing functionality as it’s no longer just a Time Tracking App for Film Crew but also an Invoicing App for Film Crew. I agree, Crew Call is definitely not perfect but I work hard to make it customizable to maximize its compatibility for Overtime Calculations all over the world. To my knowledge there is nothing else that offers the flexibility that Crew Call offers. If something isn’t working for you please reach out via the Contact Us Form in the app and I will endeavor to build what is required to make it work for you. I’d love to hear more about the limitations you are working around so that I can make it even more useful going forward. Also, definitely not developed by Film Tools. Crew Call has been built from the ground up by me, Bradley Andrew, an Indie iOS Developer and VTR Operator from Melbourne, Australia. Made by Film Crew, for Film Crew.Crew Call review
I like the app, it does exactly what I need, and if in the future I am in a position to use the other features then I will.
I should mention that in my experience utilizing the slider bar for the time scale component can be difficult, very small adjustments using your finger have to be made to choose the exact time you need.Developer Response
Thank you very much for the review, I’m glad to hear you are enjoying Crew Call! I understand the difficulties you describe when using the time slider, the good news is they were fixed in Version 1.5. Now you can tap to the left or right of the circle when using the slider for fine adjustments. This allows you to jog the time selection by one increment, either 6 Mins or 15 Mins. For a detailed overview of the new slider please check out the Learn Section in the app. Under ‘Quick Tips’ there is a short video titled ‘Time Slider’ which will tell you everything you need to know. Thanks!Doesn’t make easy what needs to be made easy
Day rate / 12hr guaranteed
is what is most common in the film industry. You get a number for that day rate, let’s say 400 for the day. The first 8hrs of your day is straight pay at 1x hourly rate, but the remaining 4hrs (too add up to 12) are at a 1.5x hourly rate, calculating up to that 400 total. OT beyond that is then at 2x hourly rate, but this app asks for an 8hr rate (or something, it’s not clear and it’s not changeable, it’s just grayed out)
What just about everyone needs help with is figuring out what your straight time hourly rate is to make sense of what makes that 400 even at a 12 hr day is in the first place (any time shy of 12 still = 12 hrs in the industry) this is needed so that you can figure out how much they owe ya beyond the 12 hrs that you had worked. This app either does not do that, or is designed so poorly that it’s not clear how to do that.... can’t we just put a day rate for a 12 in a slot and have it do the math? Is there any app out there that does this anymore? There was a good one years ago called wrap time, but it’s gone now and this app has earned 1 star from me for getting my hopes up and letting me down.Developer Response
Hi Kopextacy. I’m sorry to hear about your troubles with Crew Call. The feature that you describe is actually on my to do list and will be pushed out in the next update. What you are describing is negotiating a 12 Hour Rate with Production but using an 8 Hour Rate as your base. The 12 Hour Rate is then made up from 8 Hours at 1.0x (Base Rate) and 4 Hours at 1.5x. It is essential to use an 8 Hour Rate as your base so you have correct calculations for 1.0x and 1.5x. The new update will have a Rate Assist Tool that lets you put in your 12 Hour Rate and it will calculate your 1.0x and 1.5x based on the current Overtime Calculation, thus correctly setting your base 8 Hour Rate. I recently workshopped this with another US Crew Member and we implemented a new Minimum Work Day Option so you can have your Min 12 Hour Day calculated at the correct penalties. If there is something that doesn’t work for you, all you need to do is ask and we’ll make it a reality. The best way to contact us is via the form in-app or by email. I trust in time we’ll be able to turn this 1 Star Review into a 5 Star Review. Thank you for sharing your feedback!
