  • Usually, it’s great

I love purple air, especially doing wildfire season. And I look looking at the air and the rest of the world also.

But it doesn’t seem to be working right today. I am 23 miles away from the forest fire and it has been quite smoky here. But the dot near my tiny town shows green and that it is at 20. But reading the text it says air quality is 158. That is a big difference. I live in Northern California and I looked up to Oregon where I know there are a lot of fires, and showing green today also. So please fix this. Oherwise I would give it five stars.

That’s a really strange issue - I wonder if the map averaging period was set to a long duration and caused this? If you see it again it’d be really helpful if you could send a screenshot!
  • Awesome for air quality monitoring

I downloaded this app a few days ago because of the wildfires in Eastern Oregon/Western Idaho and I'm amazed at how accurate and precise it is with these sensors. The DEQ only has one or two sensors in my area but using Paku, I'm able to get a much more accurate idea of how the air quality REALLY is. The ONLY thing that I would like to see with this are different map layers and the wind directions on the map view. If youre concerned about air quality, especially during wild fire season, this is the app to get!

  • Love this app!

I used this app a while back, and I am so pleased to see how far it’s come. It works very well and is very pleasing to use (visually and functionally) vs. Purple Air. It’s much easier to customize and decipher based on your needs. You can also have it less cluttered when you zoom in and out, which is great. I use this app a lot lately due to the forest fire smoke around me, it’s a life saver! I appreciate the wonderful support team and their help, so grateful to have this app available to use. Thank you!

  • Not helpful

Might be a good app but there are no accurate monitors in my area, so no information. If there were I’d give it at least four stars.

My entire state shows green on this app while we’re under a government issued unhealthy air alert. We’ve been wavering between the orange and red zones according to other apps. I’d like to find one that consistently gives reliable numbers.

We have unhealthy particulates. I can see the smokey skies out my windows. This app shows a zero on the nearest monitor (~40 miles away) and green across the state.

  • Very inaccurate by over 100 points!

I wanted something with a widget to be an easy glance at the AQI. I’ve had it less than 24 hours and I’ve been double checking it against other measures. It said “Moderate” when the air was actually at a “Very Unhealthy” level, and right now is says “29 - Good” while everything else is saying between 154 and 163 (Unhealthy).

I wondered if it was pulling information from meters that are far away, but no - there are multiple within a mile radius. Is it tracking air from inside of buildings?

Overall, great design but horribly inaccurate data. The air is literally smoky so no, Paku - it is *not* a “great day to be active outside!”

Hey, really sorry to hear this! If you open the app from the widget when it’s reporting low values, does it match the sensor in the app? There might be a sensor near you that’s inaccurate - either positioned poorly or something else. You can hide that sensor from widgets by opening the menu in the detail sheet. This is just an unfortunate reality of crowdsourced data - sometimes it’s inaccurate. I’m working on a feature to improve this.
  • Atmospheric chemist here, this is a pretty good app

Good connectivity and the widget apps for the pro option are very nice. Interface is very user friendly and the updates are quite quick. The ~$1/month membership for an annual price seems very fair. I think my colleagues and I would really enjoy seeing an option to display both PM 1 and PM 2.5 data (especially as a widget option!). Purple air offers this publicly but AQI tends to be the preferred public option for good reason. I think as indoor air quality becomes more prevalent as an issue, things will get more nuanced.

Usage of indoor air quality sensors have been increasing quite rapidly, the new IKEA ones are going to further this even more. In one of our recent papers, I think the number of indoor sensors doubled every two years. I would suggest looking to eventually incorporate a user friendly page on the app (or as a widget) that can incorporate multiple air sensors in one location (outdoor, kitchen, bedroom, etc). And possibly even other sensor companies. Very nice app! Great job on it.

  • Everything I want for air quality monitoring

Seriously impressed by this app. It’s the perfect companion to my PurpleAir outdoor sensor.

With the addition today of subscription push alerts when air quality exceeds a defined level at a sensor, I’m struggling to think of any other features that I’m really missing. The quality of the app easily justifies the small subscription cost. I love the widgets on my Lock Screen too.

The only missing feature that springs to mind is a list view of sensors rather than the map view. The map view is great for panning around my area but I have family and friends spread around the country and it would be nice to see air quality/temp/humidity for a list of locations at a glance.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! A favorites list would be a great addition, I'll look into that. Update: you can now add sensors as favorites, and view your favorites in a list!
  • Map numbers inaccurate

The numbers on the map are currently like 100 lower than the “now” number when you click on any point. Has been like this for the entire week I’ve been using the app. I have to click in to see the actual number.
  • Very good, glitch in v2 fixed

    Update:
Since my original review, the developer responded quickly, asking about issues I was having. Several updates have been put out since then, and somewhere along the way my freezing issue was fixed. Thanks!

    Original:
This is a very good and helpful app. I wish it could display graphs like the PurpleAir website. The glitch is that v2 doesn’t work on iOS 15. Yes, the description says iOS 16 is required, but the app is still flagged for 15, so it got installed. Fortunately I was able to recover the compatible version via iMazing. Please flag the app appropriately.

Hi MacCats, the app should work just fine on iOS 15. Only Lock Screen widgets require iOS 16. Can you let me know which issues you're seeing?
  • Amazing app

Very user and device friendly app:
-accurate air quality indexes, even better than the stock Weather app and Google Map
-lightweight app, no bloated features and ads. Fantastic!
    -convenient widget
