Honest review

I downloaded the app a little over a year before my MCAT and mostly used the question of the day feature. 2 months before my MCAT I upgraded to premium membership and wish I had done so sooner. The adaptive question bank was very helpful in identifying my weaknesses and spaced learning so I didn’t forget small details. Newer app so they still have room to get more questions but they have a lot of great content. I would recommend as an ADDITION to your content review since it is easy to access and you can do it anywhere.

Terrible questions and greedy app

The Questions and answers are honestly terrible. You are better off using literally any other primary source like Uworld, JackWestin, AAMC question banks. Can’t believe I spent $4 on a month a premium. Not even worth that amount. Explanations are terrible and the questions are even worse. The creators don’t even know the correct definition of a Brønsted-Lowry Acid and Base.

My experience

this app was all over my Instagram feed and it advertised to be good content practice. I got it a low price, as I’m a first generation student with very few funds and can’t afford classes like Princeton or Kaplan. I used it a lot, and thought it to be a great review, but it grossly unprepared me for many sections of the mcat. I went back to the app after I took my mcat, and there’s some terms that aren’t even on the app that are high yield topics on the mcat.
on top of that, it’s also becoming quite expensive. I thought this would be the competition to uworld and help people like me get access to good content for a lower price. instead it’s becoming quite pricey and again, it grossly unprepared me. if you’re looking for an app to just review, have a little game to kinda study but not STUDY study, this is the app for you, but look for other resources.

Hey @jacksonbear01! Thank you for sharing your feedback on the app! We do apologize that you've had a negative experience with us. Could you reach us at contact@kingofthecurve.org so we can better assist you?

Most used app currently

This app is exactly what I needed to stay accountable. This whole COVID situation has had an impact on my motivation, as I'm sure it has for many other pre-meds. As such, I was looking for something to keep me motivated and accountable. Since I've been glued to my phone for the past month, I decided it would be beneficial to delete all social media apps and put this one on my home screen. Probably the most sound decision I've made lately. I still have about 6 months to go before test date. This app sets up a 30 or 60 day study plan for you. I'm using the 30 day plan to jump-start my studies. With the seemingly overwhelming quantity of information to review, it's nice to have some guidance and take some of the planning work out of the equation. Beneficial for every pre-med looking at taking the exam soon. Yes, you'll need supplemental material, but it's definitely a good way to jump start the journey.

King of the curve is great

I have been using this app for a couple of days, and have been just doing it when ever I would go on tiktok or anything else on my phone, I think the content is great and works well on my phone. If you have any questions feel free to dm me on Instagram ale_xande_r

Stick to your Anki cards

The questions and answer choices are typed out carelessly, with no regard to grammar errors and syntax. There’s that.

Then there’s the content and material. It seems like every questions is either softball (ex. Sleep stages) or it’s a question that truly tries to complicate the topic at hand more than it should. The explanations on this app are FAR from resembling AAMC’s concepts and explanations. I had to check my sources (Anki, Uworld, AAMC, Kaplan, etc.) just to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind reading this app’s explanations.

Oh and if you think you can take a screenshot to revisit later or to add to your notes, forget about it. Apparently they think their artwork is so brilliant that it needs to be licensed or whatever. Uworld doesn’t even do that. And that’s, UWORLD.

Nope—sorry developers, seemed promising at first, but it needs serious work.

Lied to about Subscription Cost + Not worth it

I saw an ad on social media saying if I downloaded the app, I would be able to subscription for free for a year. I saw the same thing as I subscribed to the app, but little did I know I would be charged three days later and for the next few months for a service I barely used.

In terms of the app, I found it to be not as helpful as other free resources online. There are plenty of free anki flash card decks that are more useful than these that you don’t need to pay for. Khan academy gives you a free thorough summary of topics, and the AAMC bundle is without question the most useful question bank you can have. This app is great concept and can improve, but it is absolutely not worth $10.

The plethora of free resources that are available are far superior to this app. It is not worth the money or the potential for you to be unknowingly charged after being promised a free product for a year.

Response from developer

Hello! Thank you for the review, but everything you said is simply not true. On our product page, it clearly states that the first three days are free (acting as a free trial). In addition, when you go to purchase, it will state that you will be charged three days later. You either didn't read it or ignored this fact. You can also read our Terms of Service where it talks about subscriptions. I apologize for the inconvenience you faced. Good luck on your MCAT, future doctor!

Simply Mediocre

When I initially used it I thought it was a great free alternative to UWorld, but after using it for some time, I have a few issues. First, the constant pop ups are incredibly distracting and annoying. Second, while actually reviewing using endless mode, they claim that there are a plethora of cards but every session I get anywhere from 2-10 repeats from the previous session. Lastly, the explanation are terrible. The majority of questions explanations are just the question with the right answer, and the images that are attached don’t even correspond the majority of the time. Overall, if you want a free study tool this is a simply mediocre way to get some practice on the go but I highly recommend you use many other sources to actually learn and review.

Hello Sean! Thank you for the review. We would like to ask some followup questions. Please contact us on our Instagram (@mcatkingofthecurve) and/or contact@kingofthecurve.org. We would like to inquiry about the constant pop-ups that you are facing. In addition, we have over 6,000 questions in our bank. Is it possible you had specific categories selected? If that is the case, you will only receive questions from those categories/subcategories! We also understand the image bug you are facing right now and are working to correct it. We are a small team of three people doing our best to make studying more equitable, even if it is "mediocre" ;)

Argh!! The rest of my life‽

There are two types of lifetime purchases available for this- it's never clear what the variety pack choices might be when there are multiple prices for a month, a year, a lifetime, according to the in-app purchases but only one when I actually buy it. I hope the app is better than the purchase page.

Great app

Although a little pricey (the discounts help), it is a great app to help supplement MCAT studying. I had a couple problems with the app but the team was super quick to help and resolve my issue which was amazing. Definitely worth it it has helped so much
