Subscription Limited

I’ve been reading the content on this app with the subscription for maybe about 2-3 years now and I’ve seen this app improve in many ways. Both in its usability and content, it’s been about half(?) a year now since they first launched their new monetization in the form of gems. There are some titles and I believe all the novels are not included with subscription. At first, this didn’t bother me too much as they’re were only a few titles that were not included and I didn’t have much interest in the novels. But now it feels like 1/3rd of new titles coming out are not included and have to be purchased separately. I understand that the main reason for this is to bring in more content and that some of these titles aren’t from Manta but borrowed from other licenses. I appreciate Manta’s efforts but honestly, I rather go back to old Manta with less content but access to all of it. Yes, it felt bad that some titles left for a reason or things got canceled and left but hey at least I was able to read it. If you are going to pay for a subscription you should have access to all your content I know that’s possible. As a start, I think at the very least most if not all of the novels should be included in the subscription. In short yes the app is fine and has a decent library and I don’t believe that Manta is terrible as it seems that they have been rather transparent about their changes. But I would rather go back to old Manta.

Was 5 stars until pay with gems was introduced

Had the app for a few years on a subscription basis and loved it as it had such a wide range of comics whilst being cheaper than any other apps that made you pay for points to read chapters.

However, with the introduction of pay per gems it means that this app is just as expensive as the others. I understand that it means that they can introduce new comics that they couldn’t have before with just the subscription, but some of the titles that were originally on the subscription are now pay for with gems.

Still a good app especially with Under the Oak Tree being on there, but still quite disappointing as not the cheaper app that it once was.

Hi! Rest assured, our subscription still provides access to a wide variety of content, just as before. The Buy & Keep option lets us offer titles that wouldn’t have been available with the subscription alone, including those whose contracts had ended. Great service but one huge annoyance

Generally love Manta, great selection of comics and solid subscription (though the Gem changes were somewhat disappointing)

One HUGE issue I have though is the Next Chapter button - it has a preview of a page from the next chapter, and MANY, MANY times this has completely spoiled the events of the next chapter which is incredibly disappointing (e.g. it's displayed several kiss scenes, character death etc.). PLEASE add an option to disable the preview, it's incredibly annoying. Thank you.

Love to disappointment

I’m disappointed that this app is leading in the direction every other similar app or website where it’s all unlocked behind a gem paywall. I have been a loyal user since the beginning and was concerned when the monthly payment kept going up after years of reading. I do enjoy this app but missing out on stories when already paying monthly fees because I can’t buy gems is just sad.

In app gem purchases for stories

I absolutely love Manta and have been using it for almost 2 years but then there was you had to buy gems to buy novels which I did. Now I just opened the app after a few weeks and see that we have to pay gems for some of the comics to read it as well, comics which I read for free before and often re-read. This is on top of the monthly subscription. I don’t know how much longer i will stay subscribed if this is the case. Webtoon does the same thing with gems, what’s different between manha and webtoon now. Honestly.

Bummed on buying options while a yearly subscriber

I’ve been subscribed for over a year and even switched to ‘unlimited’ which I have discovered isn’t even a subscription title anymore. Everything was unlimited with that original subscription.
But the things changed.
The novels started to be released for some comics. At first those were also free. At some point you had to purchase gems per volume, which honestly I didn’t mind and did with 3 stories. Then I noticed comics I had completed started to have a gem system that wasn’t in place before. So if I wanted to reread those ones now I’d have to purchase per chapter.
I’m a believer is supporting the arts especially if it’s somehow making its way back to the creator. All in all I’m disappointed. This app is very well organized and has a wide variety to choose from. I’m already paying for a year and if I read what I wanted to without a care in the world of cost I’d be looking at hundreds of dollars a year. I have a feeling I’ll be canceling my subscription because what’s even the point in that if I have to throw money at in app purchases as well?

Gem system

I have been a manta user for many years now, and for a long time I thought it was the best comic app on the market. Hundreds of comics available for a very reasonable monthly subscription. Then they started rolling out novels, then the novels started to cost money. I thought that made sense since it is a comic app, of course novels will be extra. Now you have to pay for certain comics as well. Not just pay a little extra but pay per episode, just like every other basically unusable money hungry comic app. I got interested in a comic on the app and went ahead and tried to pay for the full thing with the “gems” and it would cost about 70 USD. 70 USD for ONE web comic???? The gems system is just a way to squeeze money from the apps patrons. It’s just not worth it anymore, like why am I paying a monthly subscription fee for manta “unlimited” if I can’t even access the full app without breaking the bank. I think after I finish my current reads I’ll be unsubscribing from manta unlimited and deleting the app. So sad to see an app I’ve enjoyed for years go to the way of being just as money hungry as the rest.

Not worth it anymore

I have had this app for 4+ years and it used to be amazing but not it’s garbage. Never mind the fact you now have to subscribe to read or continue reading all my beloved stories but when I tried to subscribe (tried six times) it kept making the screen go black and then sent it back to what I was on so it doesn’t even work. I’m extremely disappointed. The best phrase I can think of is if it’s not broke don’t fix it and that’s exactly what they have done. I’ve now deleted the app. I hope they get their nonsense together and put it back to the way it was because the old system worked perfectly.

All Free Pass Series Gone

Only download if you are expecting/willing to PAY REAL MONEY. They’ve suddenly removed every single free pass comic series that had been available for years as free pass. Huge money grabbing scheme. They definitely tricked their loyal users/readers. It almost feels evil. This money grabbing scheme tricked users into becoming addicted to reading comics on their app so they could then shove a paywall into their face suddenly, when they were under the impression of the series being free pass (at least until the last few episodes of the comic’s end). I’ve now notice that the search category “Free Pass” gives 0 results, so they’ve completely removed these.

Personally, I won’t be giving them a single cent. The fact that they did something like this feels corrupt to me and makes me want to give them 0 support. They’ll probably make an excuse that the fine print said free pass would expire but they just added that recently. Also they would always be sketchy with their fine print and make it hard to find. Just like how for the free pass comics they had “watch an ad unlocks” that they sketchily said they could remove at anytime. This fine print I remember reading, but I do not recall over the last few years anything about free pass comics being removed. At least the “watch an ad pass” let me support the app somehow, but now I wouldn’t even feel like doing that for this app. I miss the time when this app let you binge read a comic for free and also not have to wait 24h to open each episode :(

Be care if you plan to use this app as they tend to randomly change things or remove them. I’ve been a user for multiple years so I’ve notice the inconsistent behaviours the app does.
