Now let me tell you, learning Kana for has never gotten easier for me with this app. However, there are a few things I’d like to touch on to make this app a little better for those of us who don't want to pay ducking 200$ for an app when we might as well go to an actual school with that money. Some of these things are:

Review time: Allow people to actually be able to look at the kana and not have a “cooldown” on that. That's stupid and desperate and you know it for a fact. You shouldn't have to have a cooldown for anything just to look at something. That's bull.

Money gouge: I said this in the beginning. 200$ for life?? Ain't no way am I paying 200 for anything. Every few seconds it will ask me “You can learn 3.6x faster” I don't care. I’m learning just fine. Faster doesn't mean better. But I will say that not holding back information from us is amazing.

Other than that this is amazing. Everything makes sense, I completely understand the customization and such, and I love it. If anything at least makes “points” for keeping up a streak or answering a certain amount of questions.

  • Good App, Almost Great

I have the Kana and Benkyō apps. They are good and I have learned a lot. In both apps I have gone through all the kana. When using the quiz of the lowest Streak, I am only tested on the Hiragana, NO Katakana ever. All of the Hiragana have a streak of over 50, but the katakana only have 20 or less. They never appear in the lowest streak quizzes. The only way to advance in Katakana is to select the kana to test on. Sometimes I only have a few minutes to do something so I want to take a quick quiz on the 25 lowest score or streak items but they do not show, only the hiragana which I am strong in. I am writing this here because I can only reach the developer through Instagram or Twitter which I don’t subscribe to.

  • Charged for trial

The app is actually pretty decent, but I signed up for the trial and discovered a couple days later that I had immediately been charged for an entire year’s subscription. Looking at other reviews, it seems like this is a bug that many others have experienced, and there’s no straightforward way to contact customer support and/or app devs.

Update: I was able to request a refund, so I changed my rating accordingly. It’s a bit tedious, but the refund was approved within a few days. You need to go to iPhone settings > Apple ID > Media and Purchases > Purchase History > Benkyō > Report A Problem > Request a refund > select relevant reason, And then submit a request.
