I like it so far
As I got started I thought I was going to really stink, but I did better than I thought. Of course I was making quite a few fairly educated guesses. But it’s fun so far and I think I’m learning a little bit.
Pedants corner
This is pedantic but here goes.
Italian renaissance section is misleading as the sleeping Venus is attributed to Giorgione, when it is by Giorgione and titian. It’s fair enough to have just Giorgione as the answer, but out of the possible choices it shouldn’t be against titian. The same problem occurs with feast of the gods by Bellini. Both paintings were “finished “ by titian and are arguably aesthetically more his than the original painters. I really shouldn’t care this much about this but it’s a stone in the shoe .

Effective & easy to use
This app is exactly what I wanted to get ready for a trip to Paris. It’s so easy to review small set of paintings until you get them all correct. After you finish a set, you can see the name of the artist, painting and museum. I especially like seeing the works sorted by museum location.
Oh and I don’t remember any ads. So if there are any, they don’t interrupt your review of the artwork.

Why Premium
I used to love this app, and would idly play through art history quizzes when I had a spare moment. Here is my previous 4 star review:

You can learn about specific eras or movements, and even the collections of well known museums. The only thing I’d call an irregularity is that questions are often repeated in the quizzes for the same units.”]
But now they’re giving me pop-ups for a premium version that costs *way* more than this app should cost. Why does this app need a subscriber plan? Anyway. I’m grumpy about this.

It’s amazing for studying some basics of art history 🫶🫶🫶
Learned but very euromale centric
I loved exploring the various artists and learned a lot. However, the title and description should reference the focus on Western Europe and white male artists. Art history happens in other parts of the world and by an interesting diversity of artists. Would love to learn more about a more global art history.

Good for free I guess
Not really for learning the art really for memorizing it. Atleast the free version. Shows you a group of paintings and the artist. Then the quiz Is multiple choice match painting to artist. Doesn’t have anything on the distinguishing characteristics of that’s artist’s paintings, The subject matter, the technique, or anything about the artist itself.

Great Review of Art
I have used this app to refresh my memory before art history courses at college. Most recently, this app helped me prepare for a 300 level Dutch and Flemish art history course.
Category Quizzes
To progress you need to pass between 1-5 quizzes in each category. The quizzes do not cover all of the art in the genre. The percentage of the category completed was a much better way to get through the material. I really felt motivated before to finish each one. Great application, enjoyed it a lot more before the last update
