  • You need this app!!!

This is the first time I’ve ever been moved to write an app review. Google Arts & Culture has fully changed the way I use my phone and consume content. This app is full of incredible educational information and learning experiences, everything from fascinating interactive virtual exhibits on the da Vinci codices to articles on history, art galleries, and so much more. I recently decided to delete social media and began replacing it with apps like this, going from mindless scrolling to actually benefitting and learning from what I am consuming has been a game changer. If you’re someone who enjoys learning and appreciates culture and the natural world, or if you’re simply just a curious mind, this is the app for you!! I’m so surprised it’s not more popular.

  • The iPad app needs more work

I was amused by this project when I saw it on web, however it was not so good when I downloaded the iPad app. The first main problem that I had was that the application does not work on landscape mode 🫠. It was a huge deception to me since I have a keyboard and I prefer to work on a landscape mode to see more images. 👎
The second enhancement that Google team should work is a filter when you are looking for an specific painting. I was intrigued by the Bacchanal of Dionysius now that is trending with Paris 2024. But when I hit Greek good and I saw that you can surf between sculptures, paintings, photos that was amazing, however I was only interested in the paintings. 🖼️

  • A few tweaks needed for mobile users

I use this app on my iphone and ipad. A couple things keep me from giving it five stars. One, the galleries of artists don't often include their full oeuvre but rather a few of their selected works. On the same note, some artists with relevant and incredible works don’t exist in this app. Two, why is the mobile UI so oddly conposed? I spent a few moments trying to find my bookmarked favorite paintings before i realized that i have to click on my own profile and scroll through the drop-down menu to find it. Why not include it as a bottom tab? Finally, PLEASE add the option automatically rotate the screen when going back and forth from landscape to portrait mode. This is my biggest gripe with this app. I want to be able to see the paintings at the widest aspect ratio relevant to the corresponding size of the painting and I thought it was rather strange that this app doesn't have that yet. These are a few of the reasons why i keep defaulting to Pinterest. This app has potential, but it does need work.
